Call them what you want, it's just so depressing to watch. I've actually decided to avoid watching crufts altogether this year....but they were obviously able to outride last years atrocities, poor things. The constant stream of deformed dogs coming into my surgery (french and english bulldogs being top of the list here) just drive me into desperation as well as the denial of both breeders and buyers. And I do think there is a percentage of veterinarians keeping way too quiet about all of this.

"Extended footage of the full parade around the judging circuit was cut from footage broadcast by Channel 4. Explaining the editing decision, the Kennel Club said: "In light of the concern over the particurlar dog we made the decision not to further highlight the unsound movement of the dog whilst we discuss ways forward to improve the health of the breed."

So it was deliberate to not show it. Time for Pedigree Dogs Exposed to do a follow up?

But this the same Steve Dean that did his utmost to bully the profession with his aggressive stance on cascade during his time as head of the VMD.

Nothing has changed in the world of the Kennel Club so not surprising there are freaks both canine and human!

At least they discussed it, and Caroline Kisko seemed to accept there was a problem, even though she backed right off when they discussed possible sanctions. Both dogs that were put forward to best in breed were equally deformed and lame to my mind, but the judges who allowed them to win before that are to blame, they should at least be penalised and not allowed to judge.

If there's any suspicion that a veterinary surgeon might have a robust attitude to genetic deformities, then he or she won't be invited to be a vet at Crufts!

It's quite interesting reading through comments made by normal dog owners on the various pages that are now cropping-up about theses GSDs.

99% of the comments are in the same vein as our discussion here and the odd one calls us all " morons" for thinking a dog with a massively sloping back and nearly non functional hindlimbs is deformed.

Well, statistics speak for themselves!....admittedly I estimated the 99% but my argument needed back-up!

It's a sad fact that these poor GSDs will now be used for breeding as " the gold standard" for the breed. If they walked in to any of our practices tomorrow we as vets would immediately start to consider hip dysphasia or CDRM! What the hell is wrong with dog breeders? Can they not see what they are doing to their so-called favourite breeds?

The clip of the GSDs at Crufts is available on YouTube for all to see, and I'm encouraging all my friends and colleagues to write to the Kennel Club to bring this matter to the fore!

I have emailed them myself today to report my disgust at the Crufts' judge in this category.....it will be interesting to see if I get a reply. I doubt it.

The thing that concerns me is that these dogs - meaning the GSD and the Peke have been vet checked and passed as fit and healthy. The GSD was being supported while the judge was examining it and had obvious loss of muscle tone over the hqs. How can any vet pass it as a fit, healthy dog? I was really disappointed to see yet another crouching shepherd winning the breed when there are so many strong dogs out there. While these dogs are being passed as fit for competition and continue to win, they will continue to be bred to that 'style'.

I agree its all a bit pointless , the N-stage of line breeding by the eugenics mob was always the end of the line ,so maybe we should just let them get on with it ? The only BVA/KC scheme to ever achieve the square root of FA was when the ISDS got involved with the eyes , and made people pass or fail with direct consequences for breeding and registration.

I'm not bothered who wins, I just think intentionally breeding for deformity stinks. Most of the breeds looked like dogs who could enjoy life but not the GSD . Looked like Quasimodo

never paid much attention to it :- but I always thought the judging was bent and incestuous, Dogs need to be identified by numbers only, handled by a stranger, judged by a jury of 5 judges independently of each other with averaged scores on a series of criteria. The judges cannot also be breeders and exhibitors.

The TV presenters always seem to have an inside channel on what is going to do well, lots of whispers about who is likely to win ,which suggests its a bit of a farce and all predetermined

I suppose as long as the judges go for the "nearest to breed standard" and the breed standard demands that the dogs are deformed caricatures of dogs, nothing will change

I heard the police breed their own GSDs now because the ones from breeders are so poor in conformation they aren't suitable for work
