Currently, when you post an advertisement on VetSurgeon.org, it remains live for 60 days. I re-advertised and I got a reply I guess in about 2 weeks but by then I'd panicked and used a locum agency. I wish I hadn't - I've just had the worst locum ever, just about every client complained, at least one is reporting him to the RCVS, and the nurses would go on strike if I got him back.
Thanks Martin Atkinson - good to know you had a response. Hopefully as there are more and more subscribers, the response will get quicker too (I think our new subscription thing is particularly good for locums). I do also have some ideas in the pot as regards a reference system for locums.

So to answer the OP a month would be fine for me because I would want to get it sorted in that time so there is no need to go to 90 days.

RE: How long does it currently take to fill a job?

Done!

RE: How long does it currently take to fill a job?

Joyce Whitehead Aha - was just about to email you anyway! In that email you got, there was a link to the VetSurgeon Job Advertising Satisfaction Survey (catchy, I know). Please can I ask you to do the survey - really will be a great help.

RE: How long does it currently take to fill a job?

We just received an email saying our advert was now closed, after 60 days, so thank you Arlo, as I hadn't remember to come cancel it. We probably filled ours within 4 weeks, and could maybe have done so earlier were it not for trying to get interviews sorted near christmas. I think 60 days sounds ample, although we are equine/sa so tend to attract more applicants than small animal alone possibly.

I don't think our successful applicant came via Vetsurgeon, but I'll check when she starts in a couple of weeks!

RE: How long does it currently take to fill a job?
how long would you like an advert to remain live (bearing in mind you can cancel it at any time)?
I am an employee, not manager or owner, but this is my opinion for what is worth:

I can tell you that our practice had recently changed our contracts (by mutual agreement) for vet surgeons from 4 to 8 weeks notice, because of the difficulty of finding another vet (not just another vet, one shaped the way we want it!).

Even as an employee I see it as a good idea. If I had to leave my practice, I would be happier if I'm not a burden for the patients I leave behind, I can only do that by not leaving the practice short. Although when things go pearshape, I understand not wanting to be there.

I think 60 days is perfect.

Why don't you make a poll?
