One of them was a very overweight pug- weighed 12kg- and although I scanned him twice from top to bottom ( and side to side) with my small pet detect scanner nothing showed up. It's good we checked as the family is moving to Spain![/quote]

Hang on then:

The microchip can’t be read

You’ll have to do all the preparation again if your vet can’t read the microchip. This means you’ll have to ask your vet to:

re-chip your pet

re-vaccinate your pet

issue a new pet passport

The microchip can sometimes be read (intermittent failure)

Your vet should try to read the microchip - if they get a reading they can then re-chip your pet (the original chip isn’t removed).

This must be recorded in the current pet passport or a new passport with:

the number of the old and new chips

the date on which they were read

the date the new chip was inserted

The vet must sign and stamp the page in the pet passport.

Your vet should record in the ‘others’ section of the pet passport that your pet has been re-chipped.

I xrayed a dog the other day for a chest issue, and she had two Chips. The owner had no idea, and only one number is scannable, so I suspect that the first one failed when she was young and she had a new one implanted.

RE: Can't find microchip, Owner sure it's there!

Does the owner remember when it was last scanned and checked?

I would try a second scanner, failing that could X-ray to confirm its still there?
