I was surprised by the figures being claimed so far: 300K subscribers and £1M worth of bookings (startup 2012).

If it does not work out, it stops.

Using a site like this might give a degree of insurance protection but if a family borrows your dog and it snaps, it is the same as any other snappy dog. You look at the circumstances and decide how unacceptable the behaviour was.

As long as the pet is insured there is third party insurance. This probably will not apply with family members.

RE: Borrowmydoggy

I think there is a big difference between an arrangement between friends or relatives to look after someone else's dog, and an arrangement with a stranger. There are a few excellent dog walking companies that I would recommend for people out at work all day, but again there is time for getting to know people, and they are all well insured.

Then I gave them Bobi, who was about 3 years old at the time, on the condition that I would take him back when they would leave. It worked perfectly. For Bobi not to forget his old home they came and visited the farm and walked him in the surrounding forest every 2 weeks. Bobi kept socialising and in touch with his other dog-mates, but obviously loved the individual attention he got as an only dog in the family, and when he eventually did come back he fitted right in and grew to be 13. Everybody happy!

Everyone - dog included - seems happy and much cheaper than paying a dog-walker.

As an investment, what sets it apart from competition apart from maybe being first in the market; what stops me setting up a rival? Would you invest in a dating site, as that's maybe the nearest similar enterprise?

RE: Borrowmydoggy

I agree with Bob As long as financial responsibilities are clearly set out , it could benefit everybody, most importantly, the dog. An obvious example would be an owner/owners who are at work all day, and an active retired person/couple who have recently lost their pet, and, although fully fit at the moment, are reluctant to take on sole ownership, as they're worrying about what would happen to the dog if it outlives them.

However, actually reading about it rather than making a knee jerk observation, this is no more than a glorified local dog-sitting/walking service, many of which we already give details for to clients. Can't really see the harm, its not like the dog has multiple owners which would be bad for the dogs. Unless I'm completely missing the point: maybe its a dating agency - love me love my dog!

RE: Borrowmydoggy

I have suggested dog 'shares' on a number of occasions. There are plenty of people that have dogs alone at home much of the day.
