Actually the funniest part was hearing this US vet describe his ineptitude in weapon handling.

He was the sort of guy who would have you rolling around describing himself doing a cat spay..... so self-effacing. There were two brothers both vets with their own practices both totally different, both equally successful but totally different in personality and PJI used to do second opinions for them both.

RE: How not to treat your clients/patients
"Reasonable force" in Philly obviously is a matter of interpretation.
It probably also depends on the colour of the victim - he wasn't black by any chance was he?!

RE: How not to treat your clients/patients
That sounds like an urban myth Anthony.
No it wasn't.

Heard it from the vet himself in the company of a respected vet, now no longer with us. The gun-toting vet related it with so much detail, as to his fear and ineptitude with large handguns, that it had to be true.

Just because someone writes a book doesn't mean others are anecdotally prohibited; paradoxically it may turn the spotlight of credibility onto the author.....

RE: How not to treat your clients/patients
The police, on arrival, advised him to drag the body into the surgery premises so that his story gained credence.
That sounds like an urban myth Anthony.

RE: How not to treat your clients/patients

I remember meeting a vet in Philadelphia who had shot a guy dead in the surgery driveway who he thought was going to attack him when he was doing a night call at his surgery.

I think its permissible to use "reasonable force" to escort violent and threatening clients off the premises, without completely loosing it. If someone is unarmed and on the floor and covering up ,you have made your point.
