Someone who did exactly the same thing 80 years earlier - expanded recklessly, tried to get out of trouble by issuing a share prospectus which was economical with the truth, and had to be bailed out by taxpayers was not only financially ruined, but even more importantly jailed. The poor taxpayers still had to bail out a company that was too important to the economy to be allowed to fail, but at least had the satisfaction of seeing the perpetrator punished.

[/quote]Certainly in our household I think the reason the younger daughter has struggled a bit is because her mother, father and sister are all high achiever/ambitious/alpha personalities and she has found it difficult to be equal. Of course we're all different and no-one expects her to be super brilliant at everything like her sister.
you need employees who are ambitious and want to take things to the next level , as long as they do not become lone wolves and run up blind alleys, because walking back down the alley may mean treading in your own droppings . Last night I went out with some high school old friends in Spain (born 80's).. we found our old Maths teacher, just retired, and he came along for the 'bar crawl' and got drunk with us... A couple of younger students ('90s) that we found during the night bought him a drink. He talked about his own views about the changes in attitude about generations of his own students.
So true. In fact, it prompted me to check my own facebook posts over the last year (I'm not a very frequent user, but occasionally post stuff). Mostly trying to share something funny/interesting but a significant amount of bragging (by which I mean anything showing that I'm having a good time). Don't think I'm guilty of any of the other crimes. Did cause me to reflect on the fact that the only person I really follow on facebook only ever posts funny/interesting stuff. Will aim to do better in 2016 :)

But for whatever reason there is a sense of entitlement in my generation, fuelled by slective stories about 21-year-old start ups making millions (in ignorance of the 1000s that go under) from selling breakfast cereal for £4 a bowl. The classic phrase is "I want to do something more creative" - everyone is an artistic triumph waiting to happen, a Booker prize winner subjugated by the politicians and tax and the grind of everyday life. I do think it is more prevalent in those born after around the 90s who have had 'social media' throughout their teens (1983 child - didn't have email until about 18), the curse of celebrity etc.

One of the best things is to come off 'social media' altogether. The electronic persona does sometimes take over and control their aspirations, which is not always healthy ,particularly in a competitive environment . I sometimes look at the photos of smiling happy faces out and about or on holiday , everything looks great , then when you speak to an individual turn out it was , a bit ok ,nothing special ,or actually a bit dull. But the fascade has to be maintained. As a BB reminds me of Smokey Robinson "tears of a".

RE: It's a view of those born 1980 onwards

A very interesting and true article! Born in 1986, I do think I have some aspects of a GYPSY but not all. I certainly know classmates that are just like Lucy though.
I think many have lost, or never had the ability to be content. Many equate contentedness with a lack of ambition. I don't.

There are a lot of things about my life, both personal and work, that could be better or different, but hey, things are the way they are! I have a job. I enjoy it (most of the time :P ) I have a roof over my head. I don't have a lot of money, but enough (OK not for that big flash holiday, but I'd never remember to book the time off anyway!) I have family and friends who love & support me, and I'd like to think I can do a little of the same for them. I have a daft wee rehomed dog who thinks I'm a nutjob.

I live and work in a beautiful area. True, the climate is that of temperate rainforest and the transport links are not great, but otherwise the place would be overrun with tourists and second home owners. Our practice has a fab wee team. Yes, I have a few clients who I could see far enough, but d'ye know, the most of them are lovely people who have chosen to use our practice and appreciate, if not actually understand, the level of dedication and hard work our staff put in. The pile of cards, biscuits, choccies and cakes at Christmas time was quite shocking.

When I have so many good things to enjoy, it's a huge waste of time and energy to dwell on the things I haven't got. Doesn't mean I can't plan and set goals ... but it's not the be all and end all of life.

So... after reading the article from the OP, I think I missed the Generation Y Boat, and I'm not that sad about it :)

RE: It's a view of those born 1980 onwards

I have been talking for some time about life being an expectation lowering excercise.

I'm not sure if it's a good day or a bad day when the shit you get served up is exactly what you were expecting.....

Im im also very aware that there are no jobs for life anymore....

There seems to be more talk about resilience and 'grit' and how more recent generations don't tend to have much of either.
