Totally agree. There seems nothing like pet passports to bring out the worst in people and blame the vet for their own inadequacy, lack of planning and leaving everything til the last minute. Glad I don't have to do them any more!

Why is it that non-OVs can sign for tapeworm treatment in the passport but only OVs can sign that a rabies vaccination was given?

Is this yet another example of when our recently "honoured" CVO has either not tried, or has tried and miserably failed to put the veterinary opinion to government? If Bob, despite being more "au fait" than most with regulations doesn't know how to go about it, does that mean the answer is it can't be done?

I currently have 3 different stamps and approval to work as an OV at three different practices where I locum.

However I now work at another practice and need to get approval for this one. Not quite sure how to go about it under current regs.

Yep, I was told that if you a working a longish stint at one practice then you can apply to use your OV status there, and if you were going to do work for a second practice then you would need a second OV number (and a second stamp).

I'm actually quite glad - I hated the OV work. It just seems illogical that having done it for so long that I can't even remember when I became an OV, let alone where I've put my pocketbook, that I am suddenly considered unsuitable. Same applies to Neil by the sound of it.

I'm just startinng to feel there seems to be too much regulation being introduced with no good evidence behind it, most of which seems to profit large training providers and/or inspectors via registration fees, on-going CPD fees etc, eg SQPs, VMD registrations/inspections and now OVs.

You probably can't be an OV, I'm afraid and I've tried

I suspect with the move to Improve and needing to register it's even harder now (if not impossible)

I registered with one practice a few years, but the right to do OV work was removed as I wasn't there for 6 months and yes I had a separate stamp that needed to be sent back to them.

Having had 9 years training at DEFRA/AHVLA and even trained TB testers this wasn't enough!!
