Actually, breeder wasn't that fussed. She'd never heard of it before this mating and been told the bitch had to have it, so was worried. She was quite happy when I passed on the message from the repro vet.

Plus now I know that it isn't vital for the dog to have it, I'm not as bothered.

Thanks Emily, but a bit far to go and my bosses aren't that desperate for it to pay for a courier too!

I've spoken with a repro specialist who says in reality it's not needed unless the bitch is coming into contact with carrier dogs, which she's not. Risks are low.

It is not your problem anyway if you have attempted to source the vaccine and can't through no fault of your own then there is nothing you can do although you may offer her the opportunity of trying another vet. But don't send her here as I didn't even know there was a separate herpes vaccine for pregnant bitches let alone been asked for one.

So it looks as if nobody has any of the vaccine at all. I rang Merial, they have a big batch load of it awaiting release but can't until they have had it signed off by the VMD so couldn't give me a date when it will be out of stock.

So, new question. Is it absolutely vital that this dog gets her second herpes vaccine, or in reality will everything be fine?
