"..This is the beginning of a new chapter for the UK veterinary community – one that seeks to build on
our unique strengths, extensive knowledge and learning, our broad skills and our professionalism.

We want to harness the expertise and energy that vets and veterinary nurses have demonstrated throughout
Vet Futures, and to maintain the momentum that has been generated. We want to tackle the long-standing
issues that have emerged through this project, which are holding us back in key areas. More than that, though, we want to forge forward – and take the veterinary professions to the next stage of evolution.
We want to establish the services we offer as a public good, and we want vets and nurses to be well set up to enjoy successful, satisfying careers in the years leading up to 2030 and beyond.

10.1 Vet Futures Action Group
Arising from the six ambitions are 34 recommendations. It is vital that we turn these recommendations into a credible set of actions. We will be inviting members of the veterinary professions to step forward and join a new Vet Futures Action Group, to ensure that there is buy-in from across the profession and to drive forward workstreams of activity.

This Group will begin the process of identifying SMART actions, and a clear plan for their delivery. As part of this,it will develop a number of measures, or indicators, for success. These will be designed to challenge us all to deliver..."

Any takers? I think the exhortation is to "step forward" and drive the ambitions of Vet Futures.

I will be retired by then sitting in the sun . The Meek in IMO tend not to inherit much of anything and generally just work hard lining other peoples pockets until someone better or cheaper comes along and replaces them .

we may also find that the circle is completed as Insurers invest in and get control of larger corporate practices , the profession becomes 90% employee, disposable, instantly replaceable from the massive crop of new graduates from the 4 new universities sponsored by the corporates and insurance companies, :-). RCVS will fight a slow rear guard action but really after being ignored by RSA its the retreat from Moscow.

Its very muddled ,classic PR speak trying to please everyone :-

If I was a wise sage I would look into my crystal ball and expect the following in the next 15 years :-

Hardy any new private start ups because 1. market saturation 2. risk averse & equity deficient young people are unwilling to risk their futures and savings.

More corporate and chain start ups ,because existing market share ,branding , and off the ground running advertising generate instant client bases( no one is prepared to starve for 2 years until their client base builds up enough to make a living ).

More Sunday and 24 Hour opening.

Loss leading of routine procedures rendering them none profit making, leading to increased first opinion surgery and less referral in the private sector ,while increased referral in the corporate sector as they refer there own work up the ladder.

Clients being directed to first opinion and referral practices by insurers. Insurers demanding inspections , and bench marking at all levels .Insurers making deals with corporate service providers at all levels and directing clients at all levels.

PSS becoming effectively redundant.

I'd like to add confusion to my earlier observation. Can anyone explain this:

A number of factors have already changed this market
and are expected to continue to shape the landscape for

Market consolidation – there has been a gradual but
clear decline in the number of practices set up from scratch
by independents (Wright 2011). Any new practices that do
spring up, generally, are part of chains......

8.5 Better meeting client needs
Vets have told us that they feel growing pressure to deliver
higher levels of customer service. ........ It is not our intention to interfere with the market,
but instead to support those veterinary professionals
who seek extra help to compete in an increasingly diverse
marketplace...."

JGW - Is the marketplace consolidating or becoming more diverse?

Then there's this, also from 8.5

"..

JGW - OK so far

"..We believe that it is in the interests of the
profession as a whole to assist vets in practice to achieve
this, for example, through exploring compulsory practice
standards...."

JGW - I'm confused. To get a competitive edge there needs to be something different about an offering. If there is compulsory practice standards then the end point is, well, standardisation. How does that help differentiation, a pre requisite of a competitive edge?
