Deeply unimpressed with the old scheme. Loathed the idea that the RCVS was endorsing one practice over a perfectly good other one. We did use the BVA guides to some extent.

Waiting to see what differences the new scheme makes. A discount would probably tip us into the go for it brigade but that is clearly not likely!!!

I was initially a 2 because of training, but then gave it 1 year to see if anyone in the whole world mentioned it before I stopped and voila. still have inspections to tell you how many digits your fridge thermometer should go to as part of our inspections to be a veterinary practice. it is the shear amount of money that must be spent dreaming up these standards, audio visuals and promoting them that might be put to better use, IMHO

We are in it at tier 2 ,it helps with staff training TP etc , otherwise its pretty useless and frankly a money wasting box ticking exercise . The Public know the square root of FA. They are interested in the same things they have always been interested in ? 1. do they like you 2. Can you fix it ? 3. How much will it be ?4.How successful will it be? .

Similar reasons here Michael, also just the sheer time required to be spent on recording, monitoring, consulting and having meetings.

We are currently sorely understaffed, and I am often working 12 - 15 hours a day. I think some aspects of the scheme are great, and others are just box ticking and make no difference to your standard of care to patients, their owners, or employees. I don't have a lot of spare time in the working day, but I'd rather spend it on vetting than trying to squeeze a practice that doesn't fit the general model into PSS

Has anyone asked practices why they are not signed up? Our reason is that we are in a small cramped building and wouldn't be able to score highly enough (no separate prep room etc). I really like the new system. I can't be the only one. Once we are in the new surgery we will join. We will go for the awards also in a number of areas.

I would say the writing is on the wall and at some point it will become mandatory. I'd rather be ahead of the curve.

My reason for joining is not specifically external marketing, but validation to ourselves that we are doing everything properly. I do think (particularly with the awards) there is some marketing opportunity.

so if after 10 years approx. 49.7 % have actively decided not to join then it is a success that needs lots of money updating and even more money to apply? to a scheme that the public has not exactly endorsed?

RCVS Facts 2014 published October 2014 claims 51.3% in the PSS.

There are likely a few more since.

I like what they have done with things and we intend to join in the new year.
