I have just put my winter tyres on despite the fact that it hardly ever snows in the Thames Valley, they just perform better in cold wet conditions. I confess the main reason is I go skiing a lot and drive to the Alps but I don't save them for that. That said, I drove across Europe last January in the dark in an apocalyptic blizzard and had no problem.

Our new wood burning stove managed to get us up to 28.5C yesterday! We are trying to cook the buggers!

Thankfully our own wood from trees that fell down two years ago. Wife loved it but we ran for the cooler rooms!!

Quite convinced that pupae can live significantly longer than 18 months!

I've now distilled my advise to

1) Stop switching products, use a good one, do it regularily - MONTHLY and do the house

2) Flea eggs aren't sticky so will roll deep down

3) Flea pupae live for 18 months so keep going

4) Live fleas don't mean bad product, they may have come from your infested house

5) Ultimately and I use humour. I came from a freezing farm house. Turn your heating off, get the house below 15 degrees and that'll sort it, but no-one does

When I first qualified and it was knee deep in snow, I was sent out on a call to see a cat 8 miles away because the owner said it was too dangerous to drive!! We made it as I took a nurse, merrily pushing the car in and out of snowdrifts to a visit right at the bottom of a valley, took us 4 hours

Nah, animals and fleas inside at 70 odd degrees, fleas in London often continuous year long. In old wooden houses, multiple occupancy and one cat infests the whole building.

Don't bank on it. The last time we had a lot of snow in the Midlands, the ***** idiots were still coming in thick and fast for vaccines, nail clips and flea checks despite local authority and police advising against all but essential travel. They never cease to amaze me.

Have you tried Simon Guitons brilliant Vet CPD. Try reading this cover to cover and getting all the questions right in 35 minutes. This is far harder than falling asleep at a CPD lecture having munched your way through the good bits at the buffet
