I think this pearl of wisdom pre-dates FB . Nutters tend not to have 10 friends ,we have had situations where we have had clients kicking off ,and brothers and sisters have come in specifically to disassociate themselves from them and their terrible behaviour making it clear they wish to remain as clients .

RE: Bunbury veterinarians blamed for failing to administer a free ethical euthanisation
The other problem you get if you give in to these idiots is they tell their idiot friends, so you get more issues.
Practice management gurus used to trumpet a truism that if you upset someone they will on average tell 10 others whereas is you please someone they will only tell 1 or 2. This is supposed to make us realise the seriousness with which we should take client complaints. However my take on this is that half of those people don't have pets, half of the rest go somewhere else already and the remaining couple are just as idiotic as the complainant so you don't want them as clients anyway. The idiotic moaning scroungers are the ones we tend to remember but they in reality are a minority. The vast majority of the pet owning public have enough common sense to know the truth and are very pleased with the service and the value we provide. They are just less likely to open their mouths to tell anyone.

I joined a Facebook page once called "ask it answer it Bunbury" thinking I could join the conversation. Quit after a couple of weeks as when I gave advice it was ignored. For example, one puppy ate 500g chocolate. Asked for vet advice. Advised needed a vet asap. Owner decided to "wait and see". The bulk of questions though we're asking which vets give accounts. The one vet who used to offer accounts got s lot of work this way, but have now stopped offering accounts too.

RE: Bunbury veterinarians blamed for failing to administer a free ethical euthanisation

When did "euthanisation" become a word?

RE: Bunbury veterinarians blamed for failing to administer a free ethical euthanisation

We have this quite often. The client with no money and a big problem tries to turn it into your problem by creating a welfare issue. You are bullied into action, the provision of free treatment or euthanasia with the threat of a bad review in the local press. That review may well happen anyway, my most recent one was an RTA cat with a ruptured body wall/bladder OOH . IVFT X-rays and repairs came to £400 ,not bad I thought . The scroat and the local press who covered it turned us into money grabbing monsters, the cat was fine but he never paid us. About a year later the same scroat was playing the same game with a local garage that was refusing to give him his car back until he had paid them for their repairs.

Some people , a small minority just live like this ,better to try and avoid them if you can , now and again they will still cross your path. Just write it off to experience and do not let them into your mind. Magistrates are often bored housewives and X-school teachers, nothing to suggest a monopoly on being right.

RE: Bunbury veterinarians blamed for failing to administer a free ethical euthanisation

Braden...

I reallt feel for you in this. I will just quote my late grandfather (a farmer), who, when an unjustified complaint was levelled against him by an ex-serviceman on a farm labour scheme organised by the government, replied to the administrator in writing. His letter was very short, and to the point:

"Dear Sir

Thank you for your letter dated ......

There are several inaccuracies in this account

Yours faithfully

I tell myself everything about that duck thing but still... What annoys me is the fact that these people "rescue" a dog from someone as dumb and selfish as themselves only for it to be put down in the end. Suffering prolonged. I'd rather have seen it in the hands of an owner willing and capable to treat.

RE: Bunbury veterinarians blamed for failing to administer a free ethical euthanisation

I'm too old to worry about this sort of thing now, in a society which allows the culture of dependence on the state and lack of responsibility for ones own actions this will always happen. I've run out of walls to bang my head against. You can't win in this sort of situation so its water off the proverbial duck's back. The sort of people who would blame you for this are not worth knowing, the magistrate is probably a loony lefty so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I would just console myself that they have been given a hefty fine but how the hell anyone expects them to pay it God only knows.
