D'ya know something? We could all say the same about internet forums ...

Once upon a time, a policeman answered with approval to a rape joke in social media, to look friendly, in response to a football team that had lost a match. People, mostly women, thought that it was outrageous that a policeman would write something like that. A policeman should lead by example, writing something like that for others to read is only fuelling and providing a justification for those that commit the offence. If he thought that the joke was funny, he was in his right to laugh and walk, but posting meant he was doing a disservice to the community.

My third job was in Eastwood in 1976, from what I recall it didn't look as though it had changed since the days of DH Lawrence.
I don't think you're missing anything! Owning a pet is not a right, so veterinary costs are not as essential purchase and it is appropriate for VAT to be added to our fees.

RE: Charideee

THAT would be winding you up!

RE: Charideee

[quote user="Hannah Wynne Richards"] Don't get me started on the evils of taxation

It is true though what Jon is saying.. the collection from VAT is really a godsend for the community. I would go as far as to say that we should probably start telling our accountants to avoid exploring legal ways of reducing our tax obligations. At the end of the day, it seems ludicruous, selfish and unnecessary to stop paying this fantastic aid to the community. Can we really be proud of our dedication if we complain and try to legally avoid our most basic moral duty?

Don't you agree Wynne?

Not sure I understand. I'm not arguing with JGW, and not trying to wind you up. Genuinely not sure what makes vets noteworthy for the fact that they collect VAT. Suspect I must be missing something.

RE: Charideee

Jonathan and Arlo.
I have enormous admiration for RSPCA Inspectors but their telephonists seem to be recruited exclusively from the ranks of doctor's receptionists
