I am (still or again) trying to make the move into industry and must admit, it is easier said than done. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas/ tips/ suggestions to try and improve my chances of finding some form of employment in this line

RE: Re.: Move to working in Industry

Welcome to PM/email (chris.geddes@norbrook.co.uk) me.

I have been in the same boat quite a few times, you are right it isn't easy. Are you looking at technical, sales or marketing positions?

Are you getting to interview stage, if not have a really good look at your CV ... it seems that the old style professional CV doesn't cut it any more.. you need to turn it up a notch and keep it short and punchy.

If you are getting to interview, and only to 1st ..review your interview technique, they are all slightly different but seem to like to get you performing in one way or the other. If you are getting to 2nd interview then you can't be doing much wrong, it will be just that the other person seemed a better fit on that day... keep trying, maybe if you are only looking at technical roles, maybe consider sales? It gets you in there and in a prime position to move on any other roles that appeal.

Happy to help if you want to pm me, but not on here all the time, so it might take a wee while for me to answer

Best of luck

RE: Re.: Move to working in Industry

Drop me a PM, happy to chat!

Try to shadow some industry vets to see if you are suited or not. Make an impression and you might get high up the interview list!

RE: Re.: Move to working in Industry

Probably best to make contacts, ,apply for shadowing experiences , "see practice " as a form of work experience , then maybe seek out internships. I think that is the way things work in the rest of business. It gets people over the " I have no experience and the the jobs want people with experience but how do I get experience if no one will give me a job?" conundrum .
