I just bought inhalers for my cat with a prescription signed by myself no problem. The price for buying something on vet prescription is different to the price you pay when buying it on a private human prescription. Apparently to do with VAT. Strangely enough this made one cheaper, but the other one more expensive, so overall I was paying the same. And it was £20 less (incl VAT) than ordering it from Henry Schein (before VAT or any mark up). They wrote on the label "Take 2 puffs" though. Do I have to read it out to my cat? He is smart, but still can't read.

No, but in fairness to them, they were mainly pensioners, schoolkids, and people I probably wouldn't ask to push a bus. In comparison to the weight of the bus, no big deal!

Utterly off topic, but I helped do that once! (It was a trolleybus that got stuck in a dead spot in the overhead wires, so me and about a half dozen passengers got off and gave the bus a push for a few feet until the pantograph hit a live section of wire!)

(Yes, not the same, and yes, not easy!)

Yes I think we should too - but getting a large practice to change a protocol is like push starting a bus.

As long as it is used for your own pet then absolutely no problems..... I even called RCVS and VDS to check!

Of course. It would only be illegal if the prescription was diverted to other than the intended use. Eg deciding to get antibiotics or painkillers for yourself etc.

Advocate price with VAT is cheaper online than we can buy it without VAT, before any mark up.

I don't bother but it would be perfectly legal, and even canny, to buy it online and I'd certainly write my own prescription if i wanted to.

It would be neater getting a colleague to sign. I don't think there is a prohibition in law. I suppose if you needed to obtain drugs for your own animal from another vet (away on holiday etc).
