Well I join you here Clare. I think it is absorbed through the skin as there is some transdermal vehicle but surely once it gets into the body it will be quickly distributed by the blood stream so the supposed local effects are in fact general? The only saving grace as I can see is that it avoids the gastro-irritant effect of tablets.

Re the supposed increased risk of heart disease, it is the NSAID gives the best combination of convenience/effectiveness/least side effects in me so for the odd occasion I need to take it I'll take a chance of dying from cardiac failure! Meloxican (Mobic) is a single daily dose and probably safer, at least until someone comes up with the next bit of research, but I don't find it quite as effective.

DMSO worked for me with "tennis elbow" but get the strong one. Can buy various dilutions.

Hurt even to stir coffee.....

What Lucy says, I'm having elbow trouble at the moment (apparently you can get tennis elbow from knitting and flute playing...), which I can do myself with some tricky fiddling, but I think for your shoulder you would need some help.

For a shoulder you might need help, depending on where it is. Mine is all taped up currently (physio did it) but when I copied it at home I needed help as the tape is to encourage me to pull my shoulder back and up - I don't think I could have done it one handed.

I've got quite a lot of titanium scaffolding in my back, and I found topical voltarol useless (as opposed to oral, which worked a dream, till they decided it raises your risk of heart attack). So I switched to naproxen, taken with omeprazole to stop the gut ache.

Yes.

I get a stiff neck/muscle spasm thing where it is agony to turn my head. Voltarol gel is my treatment of choice and as effective as oral analgesia.

The one in the metal can seems to work better than the one in a toothpaste type tube - I don't know why!
