i reckon the book has half truths and so it's hard to refute one thing because Hameron would have to admit some of it.

I imagine, that the answer is further evolution of societies across the globe: The world will become more diverse and more borderless as it advances, despite of some franctically wanting to keep themselves in a 'pure' bubble (here in the West for starters, but also elsewhere). And that doesn't mean that any heritage: language, culture, tradition or monument needs to be lost. But, as Arlo points out, a more homogeneous level of QOL and more equality between the people that live here, will eventually lead to a more stable population levels.

Alternatively, we can all donate http://www.spaceindustrynews.com/how-to-donate-to-nasa/ and find another planet to destroy ;-)

RE: Hameron - did he do it?
In that (very) hypothetical situation, the answer would be yes. The situation would be no different to that in pre about 1920 Europe. The excess population simply sailed away to America.
Have to say, I am right there with Wynne on the human population. Clearly there are finite resources, and yet no politician seems willing to acknowledge, let alone address that fact - perhaps because people think they have an inalienable right to have as many children (not to mention pets!) as they want, and challenging that is not a great vote winner. Not to mention the fact that the capitalist system is based on the idea of growth, which is hard to achieve with a declining population.

The only way we perhaps differ is in how to stop population growth. One argument is that as countries become more advanced, their populations naturally drop, and this change will naturally cause the population of the world to peak within a tolerable level before it starts to fall back.
I know Bob Russell...it is scary. I do still think that restricting access is not the way to go, but I can understand your reaction.

From a very young age I've told my children to assume, until proven otherwise, that any stranger on the internet is a hairy, sweaty, middle aged man who is sat in his pants pretending to be a teenager. (Apologies to all sweaty middle aged men!).
Been there done that. At one stage I gave a very graphic account of what many of the friends and followers where and what they were doing!

To some degree what you don't know cannot hurt you but doing what seems right is not a guarantee that kids will understand or choose to take notice!

Boys are much, much easier!!! Plenty for them to look at on the internet that would devastate my parents but water off a ducks back to most of us!

The dangerous ones online are offering understanding and true love to crazy mixed up kids trying to be grown up!

RE: Hameron - did he do it?

Arlo and Ruths.

As far as I'm aware, I've only twice actually met anyone who was on drugs at the time. Bizzarely, both occasions were in court. I was apppearing as a professional witness for the RSPCA, and on both occasions the defendant turned up drugged. I was highly indignant that although the police were in the building, they turned a blind eye to the crime being committed in front oftheir eyes - just ignored it, because they only arrest people for supplying. I was even more indignant that both were on benefits, so taxpayers were being robbed to keep them! I certainly don't consider illegal drug use to be a trivial crime.

I did once have a totally surreal late-night telephone conversation with a man who phoned to say his dog had eaten grass. I (farmer's daughter) thought he was talking about the green stuff that cows eat, so explained patiently that all dogs ate grass occasionally - it just meant they were feeling sick. He was in a panic, because it had eaten grass, I couldn't work out why! He then said weed I asked which weed? Eventually I realised he was talking about cannabis.

Clare Perhaps it's a pity that the pig was dead - otherwise it might have prevented Cameron from damaging the planet by excessive reproduction.

Wynne

PS Probs. I was going to buy "Call me Dave" a toy pig for a Christmas present. Do you lot think I'd better get something else?
