The Neolus were the orrignial ones, made from (I think) Japanese steel and really sharp. They then changed to Agani, made in China, which were as sharp as Mark Thatcher. You can still get hold of Neolus ones from some suppliers (IMS have some, as did Vet Direct) but they are running thin. The Agani have improved but are still no where as sharp as the Neolus. I used one for a blood sample yesterday and the amount of force required to get it through the skin was surprising and some of them still have burrs on them.

Trogue, to my mind, are a bit better than Terumo Agani but still a lot worse than Terumo Neolus. I didn't order them in (a nurse did looking for a cheaper alternative) but I won't get them back again. A couple of years ago a colleague had the needle become detatched from the hub and it had to be surgically removed from a dog. Fortunately it was a friend's dog so they took the unexpected operation quite well.

We are currently trying Nipro, from IMS. They are made from Japanese steel and, so far, seem to be working well although we have only been using them for a few days.

RE: sharp needles

The Agani ones were bloody terrible for a while a few months back - it felt as if every cat for a blood sample was a battered old tom with leather for skin. There was a definite difference particularly with the 23g which seemed blunt and you had to put more pressure on to get it through the skin, which tended to push the vein out of the way, and at other times they tended to snag on the way out. One of our nurses said they'd heard there had been quite a few complaints about them, so they may have changed back again now as I haven't noticed it recently.

RE: sharp needles

Terumo can pull blood from small fast moving aggressive stones.
