I wondered if anyone could help me interpret a urine sediment cytology? It is from my cat who has a permanent indwelling cystostomy tube following his RTA last year. It has been absolutely fine until last week when the urine went incredibly

RE: Urine cytology

Hi Guys,

Thank you for the replies (sorry for the delay in replying - been one of those weeks/weekends!). Glad to hear you think they are nothing too sinister. I guess there's the question as to why there are there. I don't know if its just a 'foreign body' reaction to the cysto tube being in place.

His urine got a lot better while he was resting for his lameness but went haemorrhagic after we let him out again so I think it may just be physical irriation causing it all...

Thanks again for the reassurance!

RE: Urine cytology
Hi Sarah,

Looks like neutrophils to me.
I would be inclined to agree, I'm assuming they are 'free floating' in a drop of urine on the slide so you'll be seeing them more in 3D rather than flattened cells on a smear.

RE: Urine cytology

Hi Sarah,
