I subluxated my SI joint which the physio manipulated back in.

Unfortunately it kept coming back out

She sent me to a consultant who injected dextrose into joint which worked great.

One injection has now lasted years for me

Cannot remember name of technique but very common in USA and fairly risk free

I think that adopting a more upright position to give some recognition of my increasing years may be beneficial but that would mean incurring the wrath of the bike style police of which I am chief constable!! So for now I grin and bear it and reflect that by being more aerodynamic I will go faster and arrive quicker so the pain can be relieved sooner. However that doesn't work as I just go further but at least I look stylish - well to my eyes anyway.

RE: Sacroiliac injuries
I have seen osteopaths in the past and been totally underwhelmed. They seem more concerned with trying to put on a show and produce a big click than providing me with answers to why it happens and how to prevent it recurring. 'Partial dislocations' etc probably happen because of weaknesses in the soft tissues around the joint, and a physio will help you strengthen those tissues to prevent it happening again.

RE: Sacroiliac injuries

I have had recurrent sacroiliac joint pain which appears to be a partial dislocation after paring friesian front feet in the 60s.

Various specialists and therapies were unsuccessful over the years until a chiropractor in Queensland manipulated the joint in a simple twisting movement and gave total relief instantly [as did the chief of the London school of Chiropractic with a similar manipulation].

Pure coincidence, I here the cynics cry, but it's been done about 20 times over the years, and provided it is done correctly, the results go from from bent-double, can't drive etc to TOTAL pain-free normality in seconds.

I've only found one physio and this one Welsh chiropractor [in Oz] who was happy to perform the exact manipulation with the usual total return to normality. [To be fair both these guys knew about it without my direction and I just learned it from them]

it appears to me that the sacro-iliac joint on one side sort of partially dislocates and this manipulation puts it back in place.

Very hard to knock the instant results and I would recommend fellow sufferers explore this avenue.

Having detailed the good, the bad goes from a nice warm young female hand on my sacrum for about 15 minutes [no change in the actual affected area] to another chiro who said I had put my hip out of joint and pressed on my greater trochanter for some minutes or another who jolted my spine with that dental automatic mallet thingy, all totally ineffective.

But by then it had stabilised and he said that although he wouldn't have advocated being active (I had been riding again and skiing since the initial injury!) that keeping mobile had actually probably helped keep the muscles from seizing up.
OK, I suffer from chronic sacro-iliac pain and last year I greatly exacerbated it. Some say it was all the crazy skiing I do and the crashes that come with the territory, I maintain it was just sitting awkwardly on the plane coming home! Notwithstanding this I was in great pain, couldn't even sleep properly, or worse cycle without crippling pain! I was so desperate that while I waited for an appointment with a specialist (even privately that took 2 weeks) I went to the local osteopath (which if you know my views on them shows the level of my desperation) which was just a waste of time as suspected.

Still to cut a long story short, and finding I had several other issues with my back and hips which showed on X-ray and MRI, I asked the exact same question. The specialist said, that as hard as I think I am, I risked chronic allodynia/hyperalgesia if I persisted and a period of rest with some gentle core exercises and NSAIDs would be of benefit. In the end it only took another week of so and the pain suddenly eased. I still suffer from chronic low grade back pain after long bike rides but exercise doesn't exacerbate it so I put up with that. He also told me my hips weren't far off needing replacements yet I suffer virtually no issues with them. I put that down to regular exercise keeping everything in trim.

RE: Sacroiliac injuries

See a GOOD osteopath.
