sorry Evelyn, didn't see this yesterday, because you didn't mention me! But yes, it is supposed to do precisely that, and did the last time I tested it. But didn't seem to work on my iPad this morning. Will raise with techies on Monday.

A very similar atrocity occurred in 1963. Then members of the Ku Klux Klan detonated a bomb in a black Baptist church in Birmingham Alabama. 4 teenaged girls were killed, and a stained glass window was blown out.

A man called John Petts who lived in the Carmarthenshire village of Llanstephan and whose trade was making and repairing stained glass windows was appalled. He contacted the editor of the "Western Mail" - regional daily paper. They decided (as a gesture of support) to raise the money to replace the window. An appeal was published in tne paper, specifying that the maximum individual donation should be 12and 1/2p (woth around £10 now) so the window would truly be donated by all the people of Wales. I think that the fact that this atrocity occurred in church horrified everybody all the more. I remember contributing to collections held in both church and school.

The money was collected, John Petts made, shipped and installed the window, which depicted a black Christ on the Cross. It is still there, and is known as the "Wales window"

I would - no desire to be associated with rednecks! But point taken about the soiling of images by connotation.

Ah, flags 'n' emblems. What a nice civilised conversation this is. I'll stay out of it (we have a tendency to argue Parliament to a standstill, block roads, burn things and throw things at riot police when we discuss bits of coloured cloth).

! was somewhat shocked to find some fine linen table cloths amongst an elderly relatives belongings. Apparently belonged to her mother. Around the outside, a nice ring of swastikas. They were never used in my lifetime but clearly kept for sentimental reasons!

This sort of symbol should be so widely used that it soon loses the negative connotations. Once they lose the power to shock the job is done!
