Very very worrying and upsetting.

I was recently asked by the anti-puppy farming campaigners to try to start a movement within the veterinary profession against the practice (can you believe none of our professional bodies have any official line at all on the practice?!)

After this story I think we need to put our professional weight behind not only the campaigns against puppy farms in the UK but also abroad.

I am going to start with a FaceBook page where people can join and share their stories and opinions but any other and all suggestions or help would be very gratefully received!

Re: Puppies replace drugs in top illegal imports.

It is worrying indeed. Came across article in the Daily Mail.(December 2014)

Direct quote, "Investigators said that four out of five vets they approached in Lithuania admitted to falsifying pet passports or vaccination records, or said they would be willing to.

Meanwhile, nine of the 11 breeders and dealers they tracked down in the country said they would sell underage puppies to the UK, or already had done. Dogs often travel more than a thousand miles, and many are unvaccinated – meaning they risk spreading diseases such as rabies to other family pets.

Pet dealers admitted to Dogs Trust investigators on camera that they can make up to £100,000 a year. The number of declared puppies entering Britain from Lithuania increased by 780 per cent between 2011 and 2013, while from Hungary the figure rose 663 per cent.

And this does not include the thousands of puppies thought to go undeclared at the borders."

The only problem is, unfortunately no-one is going to do anything about it. PETS scheme is become a joke really.

The other thing thats disturbing is the lack of ethics displayed by the vets.....what about all the other animal products they certify which end up on our plates........last time we had horse meat issues in certified products!!!!
