'Fraid so, it's tedious. There is no perfect answer for all scenario, and whatever you try and do there will be someone in the practice who says "What if...?" or "What about when...?"

Gently be it said, the greater evil is supplying POM-V meds incorrectly, 'cos it's your ***, so to speak, not theirs.

This is a Veterinary Medicines Regulation requirement, which is rather more robust than a PSS requirement.

We put up meds during am surgery labelled together with a dispensing bag and client address label. The vet finishes am surgery and initials all the meds on the meds label. They go in to a dispensing bag (aks a Pharmaceutical to sponsor these for you) and are moved to front desk. This means the receptionist is handing over a bag with an owner label on it rather than dispensing meds. In this respect it is no different to a postman delivering a package of POM-Vs from an Internet pharmacy.

We can repeat this pm if required. We ask owners to ring in for repeat meds and assiduously underpromise and overdeliver on when they'll be ready.

As far as repeats are concerned we have a policy. This is effectively a summary of the repeat exam interval for each dispensed drug - it's only one side of A4.This is in the Pharmacy/Dispensary. When a repeat checkup comes up the previous dispensed meds bag contains an A5 sheet of paper warning of the need for a meds check and the cost.

It wasn't that much of a culture change, just a bit of an organisational exercise.
