I don't do enough claim forms to worry about doing them on line, we are quiet and have plenty of time to do them manually plus my experience of dealing with PetPlan online has hardly been encouraging.

We had Vetcom but had to get rid of it when NVS tried to remove almost all of our wholesaler discount and we changed wholesalers. It was actually quite a good system from what I remember. Newer systems are really very easy to get used to, do a lot more so it might be worth thinking again about the actual PMS!

If you promise to use their lab will they waive this fee? Then perhaps change back once all is settled!

We don't pay the PMS company separately, just VetEnvoy (minus the SPVS discount). Sending eClaims is so quick and easy; likewise microchip reigstration (and we get cheaper chips if we do electronic rather than paper registration)

I'm very glad everyone else thinks it is a rip off, as that was our view as well. We use the NVS system, Vetcom. As we have used it for about 20 years, the thought of changing is rather daunting, and otherwise it works well, but on this occasion they are certainly not covering themselves with glory. I've sent a strongly worded email, so will see if they can compromise.

£300 training? For insurance claims the training was 'press this button then follow the instructions' For lab forms the training was 'press this button then that one then follow the instructions' . That was given in an email and perhaps a 5 minute phone call.

Do you mind if I ask which PMS provider you are using?

Thanks for the replies all. I think if the PMS didn't charge us we would go for it, even if it was just for insurance claims. But at £600 plus at least £300 training I think we will pass. It's a shame, I was looking forward to less time spent on insurance!

We haven't been charged by our PMS to use it or set it up.

Saved so much time getting the Idexx results back into the animal's files - it ate so much reception time. A new Petpaln claim is a pain, but continuation claims are so easy we have reception staff doing them without vet involvement.Even prints a lab form out in seconds.

Need to get the microchip registration set up, along with 100 other little jobs. I think its great.

We don't pay our PMS provider anything. Last month's VetEnvoy bill was £17.25 before discount, which included their subscription, 19 Petplan claims plus free IDEXX and TDDS lab reports. Well worth it for time saved, especially on insurance claim administration. We haven't had cause to use VetEnvoy for other insurance company claims so far, but assuming they are the same as PetPlan it is quick and easy to do.

Thanks Kate. I'd be particularly interested in whether you are charged by your PMS provider to use Vet Envoy. Our system is only compatible with the insurance claim part at the moment so we won't get nearly as much benefit as your practice does. I think we have more or less decided not to do it, as in addition to the £50 per month they want a training day (or two) at £300 per day....

We use it and am not aware of any problems but I could if I can get someone who knows more about it to write a quick post for you. We also use it for registering microchips and getting lab results directly attached to the animals record card. It saves quite a lot of time I believe, so if it means a couple of extra phone calls get answered, I guess it should pay for itself quite quickly? Especially if you can use it for other things as we do, not just for insurance claims
