Thanks for your reply, I didn't realise the BSAVA certificates were already Advanced practitioner status approved - that's good to know. There's a lot of information out there when you start researching certificates and it's a bit of a minefield! The online module definitely sounds like a good way of achieving the key skills component.

The whole thing needs a bit more research and thought but many thanks for making it all a bit clearer!

The BSAVA PG certificates are also approved for Advanced Practitioner status (and indeed were the first other than the Cert AVP to be approved).

There is the additional requirement for evidence of Professional key skills CPD (as for any qualification which does not explicitly teach and assess these elements). But BSAVA members (whether enrolled on one of our PG certificate programmes or not) can take part in an non-accredited online Professional Key Skills Module, which the RCVS have said they will accept for the purposes of Advanced Practitioner status. BSAVA members can take part in this module free of charge.

If you're interested in either the BSAVA PG Cert Ophthal or the professional key skills module, please feel free to message me.

Frances

Re: Certificates

Thanks Mark, hadn't looked into BSAVA yet - for some reason I thought all their teaching was done up North but turns out it's in Gloucester, so that would be achievable from where I am. Looks like their certificates are automatically at the same level as the Improve PgC "upgrade" level. They state:

"Are the RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP) and the BSAVA Postgraduate Certificates (PGCertSAM and PGCertSAS) academically equivalent?

Each qualification is positioned at Level 7 (Masters) within the QAA Framework for Higher Education Qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and carries 60 academic credits at this level. The qualifications are therefore, by definition, academically equivalent"

Now that Improve have their certificates eligible for Advanced Practitioner Status, I would assume BSAVA may follow soon?!

Re: Certificates

BSAVA do an ophthalmology cert, might want to check them out as well.
