The range seems to be quite low in the ones I've looked at . Also is there an app on a phone which can communicate it's location to a second phone ? Just to explain my autistic son is becoming more

Re: Pet tracker devices

[quote user="Clare Tapsfield-Wright"]

I think the iPhone suggestion would be good as long as it's easy and quick to activate the find the phone app.
Never a dull moment and he keeps me fit!

With the 'Find Friends' iPhone App once you have given permanent permission to share your location with an individual person they can see the location of your phone at any time, as long as it is on.

Re: Pet tracker devices

Hi Ruth , Guy is 23 but severe learning difficulties . Can't use a phone and very limited language. He wouldn't phone me if he got lost , just stand around rocking and smiling. We live in a small village where he is well known but he loves going to shopping centres , hiking and looking for music CDs in charity shops. He used to stay with me or his carer but he has become more independent recently which is great but one minute he's there and the next he's off up the road or into HMV or a charity shop. I am glad he is feeling confident enough to do that and I don't want to stifle his freedom but it would help to know where he is if he belts off . My other son sounds very similar to yours , also on the spectrum but copes very well with a mobile phone and has a job in the local supermarket.

I'm just interested- I've a big with HFA who is pretty mainstream but I worry about him off in his own - he struggles with sensory input at can be really frustrated if he doesn't understand people.
How would it work for your boy?
Mine has just started at secondary and we've done the find my phone thing when he got lost on the way home because is bus was diverted. It pretty much stopped him from freaking out in the middle of town- he was talking to my husband who was tracking him on the computer.
Like that film with gene Hackman -))

Re: Pet tracker devices

Thanks everyone .
I phones have a find my iPhone app so you can find it anywhere anytime. Just buy an old one and slip it in his bag / coat pocket.
