Work days are officially 8.30 - 6, but more realistically we often finish by 5pm. Day length is an issue for me as I have horses to ride before or after work and also try to fit some exercise in for me. 1:2 is really too much, we're working towards 1:3, but I'd always rather work a short day and do slightly more on-call (although that may be a biased view as it is pretty quiet). Regularly working 8.30 - 7pm would floor me.

Re: Who covers your OOH?

Where I am currently is a combination of the bottom two.
