Do I need a Pet Passport to take my dogs on the ferry from England/Wales/Scotland to Northern Ireland?
high doses e.g. those used for cerebral cysticercosis and schistosomiasis in humans, are another story but even there the side effects are an inconvenience not a toxicity!

Re: Taking dogs from England to Northern Ireland

That's what I thought - thanks for all the replies.

You are correct Will , this has been the case for 3 or 4 years, you dont require a passport if you travel direct to Northern Ireland from Scotland but as all other ferry routes from England /Wales ( I think) arrive in the South you do require a passport on these routes. We have had clients that were told they needed a passport for their dog when trying to book on Liverpool to Dublin ferry. I believe there is a small sign at the ferry port at Belfast asking pet owners that have come from the South to show their passports but that's really it. It is a crazy situation especially as has been said in other comments there are often no clear borders / farms in both south and north and even the locals dont know exactly where the border is sometimes.

[/quote]

There's a ferry from Belfast to Liverpool (Birkenhead). I used it to get home last summer after a round Ireland cycle trip. I had no passport checks anywhere. Actually I didn't take my passport as you don't need one from the UK, just my driving licence. But I still had no id checks anywhere - I entered on the Fishguard to Rosslare ferry and was waved through. I crossed in to northern Ireland on a small ferry from inishowen, no one was checked.

Re: Taking dogs from England to Northern Ireland

Veterinary surgeons close tothe border must be experts in treating praziquanteltoxicity!
