As I understand it, the reason that the vaccine details box is laminated is because they are assuming you have used a sticker and so it is so that the sticker does not come off. Same with the microchip page. Although I did one the other day and out of force of habit wrote the chip number on by hand then realised I could have used the sticker and made life easier!

It should also prevent the sort of thing I saw once where a vet in Germany could not read a dog's microchip at flea and worm treatment so chipped it again and stuck a sticker over the handwritten entry from before obscuring it completely and the dog happily came through customs!
I didn't get any briefing not or letter unless it was binned without noticing but I found the directions following your link thanks, previous attempts at trawling the DEFRA website was fruitless. FInally managed to complete and didn't find the laminating difficult but getting all the information in the authorised veterinarian box in section V was a challenge.
Well I've finally received my 'emergency' supplies of passports, 3 weeks after an urgent phone call and in the nick of time to issue one for one client today. But there are no guidelines with them. So can we be clear on what has to be laminated:

I was about to laminate page 7 (issuing vet details), but assume now the page 6 with the animal's chip number. And the boxes with the vaccine details and vet's signature on the rabies vaccine pages or should it be the vaccine date/valid from/valid until dates? It can't be all 3.
Hope so as I have just completed some. Good job this was brought up as, despite several people checking the first new passport, I had not signed page 7 before laminating it by mistake!! As I read it none of the boxes need to be laminated if the vaccine details are hand-written. Only if a label is applied. I wrote the vaccine details in the corrected book but still laminated it in case!

Might just laminate the other pages as well!

Re: Passport!

Well I've finally received my 'emergency' supplies of passports, 3 weeks after an urgent phone call and in the nick of time to issue one for one client today.
I don't see why you would need more film, as there are enough little bits to cover all the rabies vaccine slots. or have I miscounted?

Personally i think the page devoted to the vet who completed animal identification page should also be laminated.

It is, that's why the laminated tear off sheet in right next to it ... or have I laminated the wrong page?

Yup. Wrong page.

Re: Passport!

Having done my first passport the other day I am now wondering if I should recall it and re-issue another- I filled it all in correctly, but when I put the full page laminated sheet onto the microchip number page I hadn't lined it up quite straight and it touched the bottom corner of the page and when I pulled it off it took the surface of the page with it. Only a small area but some of the print as well but related to the tattoo number (which this dog doesn't have anyway). Anyway, I lined it up straight and applied it so the print in the bottom left corner is askew and then had to sellotape the bottom corner of the page on both sides to hold that corner of the page together. (Sounds like a right bodge job even as I type!!) Anyway all the relevant details are visible anf clear and not obscured by my faux pas, but I am now wondering if I should recall it and do a perfect job on it. Woke up in the night worried about it!!

I will call defra but would anyone like to comment if I should quit worrying or not!

Re: Passport!

The full page lamination sheet is supposed to be for the page with the microchip details on.

Re: Passport!

Did anyone else get an email today about faulty passports where the number on the cover doesn't match the one in the inner sheet of the passport?
Plus genuine errors of course!

Going back to the days of the blood test and 6 month wait I worked in a practice that did the work for a quarantine kennel. A vet in Norway had microchipped, vaccinated and blood tested the dog all on the same day. I guess it musty have had a previous rabies vaccine as it had a titre over 0.5. It was picked up on entry to the UK and spent the next 6 months in quarantine, I'm assuming the Norwegian equivalent of the VDS paid the quarantine charges.
