And I constantly find I am searching around for a nurse! Definitely not enough in my opinion. (that is when we are at full strength, we are actually down one nurse at the moment and there don't seem to be any qualified nurses out there looking for jobs!)

Many years ago someone told me that it should be 1.5 FTE nurses per vet but I can't remember where that came from.

Re: Average number of nurses per vet

2.5 vets, 1 RVN, 4 SVN, 2 receptionists

Re: Average number of nurses per vet

1 site, 1 vet 1 RVN but need another one!

Re: Average number of nurses per vet

2 sites

We have 4.5 FTE vets across 3 sites, and we have 9 FTE RVN/SVN, but at 2 of the sites the nurses cover reception as well, so we only have 1 FTE receptionist across the group.

Re: Average number of nurses per vet

RCVS Facts 2014 has a map that compares numbers of RVNs to MRCVS, and it's quite fascinating doing the numbers. It was interesting comparing the map to the online topics of 'where are all the nurses' and seeing that, yes, the reason some clinics are not getting many applicants is because you have extremely few RVNs in the area, full stop!

It's not a uniform distribution by any means; some places had a good ratio of nurses to vets, and some it was extremely low.

Re: Average number of nurses per vet

1:1
