Ours are Geeling and been in place for nearly a decade and a half. They look as if they were put in yesterday. Fibreglass with stainless doors.

Were an arm and a leg but spread over the years they have been very cost effective. Quiet, strong and cope with pretty much anything. Stainless looks good so appear impressive but fibreglass warmer and don't clatter.

Re: guidance on kennel types

fantastic thank you

Re: guidance on kennel types

[quote user="Michael Woodhouse"]

It sounds like you describe the Plaztek kennels.

We have a few and they are very good. Warm to the touch, well made etc.

The company isn't the easiest to deal with, but good products. We will own more of them, one day.

Yup, those are the ones.

We have had ours for about 15 years, I can't remember the supplier tbh but they look very like the plaztek ones. Our walk in is brick and tiled. I have worked in practices with stainless steel, and the noise of a dog trying to dig out is horrendous.

We have a bank of kennels, including some divideable ones for busy days, which make rather small spaces but enough for a cat and litter tray that is in for a routine neuter and not staying too long. We don't often need to use the dividers.

Re: guidance on kennel types

Another fan of polypropylene kennels. I've had mine for over 18 years, and they're still looking good. Stainless steel is said to be longer lasting, but given it's disadvantages (cold and noisy) I wouldn't choose it. A neighbouring practice also has polypropylene - the only thing that damaged theirs was an injured seal, brought in straight from the beach. It literally sanded the inside of 1 kennel.

We have someone who makes kennels to measure, polypropylene (I think). Nice and sturdy, and have little catches built on to the doors to stop animals accidentally opening their own cages.

They're easy to clean, can be made with removable panels to turn double kennels into large singles, easy to switch. Our main hospital has had them for some time now and they age well. Also really good because they're not as cold as metal kennels, and if you get a snuggle safe/wheatie/generic warming device into the kennel it warms up well too.
