Having a quiet day so I've summarised a few of the changes for my colleagues. Thought it might be worth sharing.
Let me know if any disagreement with the below.

Maybe when I do my revalidation with improve in a couple of years all these questions will be answered!

No! - Export certs cannot be done in black ink

Pen = any colour other than black

Stamp ink = any colour other than black

It was always thus - and I use a blue pen and blue ink for passports too.

I was going to laminate rabies sticker and signature and leave date but was worried about leaving that unlaminated agree with ambiguousness of the passport.
I do lots of cheese export certificates and they all have to be done in colour other than black writing and stamp

Re: New Pet Passports

There is absolutely no reason why a blue or black pen should be preferable or a requirement.
Eats shoots and leaves!! It is ambiguous, a bit like the VDS guidelines on treatment for tapeworm we discussed a little while ago. To me it means everything should be in colour so I've always used a blue pen and OV stamp and when I've accidentally started with a black pen have aborted and re-started in a a colour.

You are supposed to put the sticker over the rabies vaccination sticker/details and one large sticker over the page with the pet's details including the microchip number.

Re: New Pet Passports

Arses and elbows spring to mind!

The whole pets passport has been subject to years of minor modification and changes.
Actually the document I just linked to does say you need to include the SP number in the signature box, alongside name, address, phone no & signature. But the one page guidance sheet that came with the passports definitely implied it was optional!! (just managed to squeeze it into yesterdays passport below the box - definitely a magnifying glass job!)

Re: New Pet Passports
It is suggested that it should be in any colour other than black. Certification used to only be acceptable in black. I have tried to use blue but have fairly regularly started with black by mistake! European vets don't seem that fussed and the pets still seem to be moving from country to country without anyone refusing on the grounds of pen colour.

Copiers can copy any colour faithfully so there really is no security benefit in using a colour other than black. My OV stamp pad is red but I will not be allowed to use that to certify rabies vaccinations so my new pre-inked stamp with our phone number will have to be in a non-black ink!

I have to admit I would not be losing any sleep over using a black pen!

Re: New Pet Passports
I am of the opinion that you can never have too many stamps so it in doubt stamp with your OV stamp and the practice stamp. Better than not stamping and finding out later you should!
Did my 1st one of these yesterday - it definitely states in the guidance that you shouldn't stamp the rabies vacc section with your OV stamp, but you "may" write your SP number. (You do need your OV stamp for the vet details page though)

However - good luck to anyone trying to include their SP number on the vacc page; who decided to make the boxes so small?! I'm going to have to invest in a very fine tip pen and a magnifying glass for the next one - we have a very long address so trying to include this, my name, telephone number & (tiny) signature is ridiculous! There's also no way you'd fit any stamps in this section anyway.

Out of interest - I've always just written the rabies vacc details in by hand as I think it's more secure, so I didn't need to bother with the laminating stickers (apart from the microchip page). Is it now recommended to use the stickers?

Re: New Pet Passports

I am of the opinion that you can never have too many stamps so it in doubt stamp with your OV stamp and the practice stamp.
No - you need to stamp and sign the page with your details as the vet issuing the passport, but no longer need to stamp elsewhere.

Re: New Pet Passports

Are the stamps now redundant except for export docs then?

Re: New Pet Passports

The old passports state 'Authorised Veterinarian' at the top of the other vaccinations pages, same as the rabies vaccination pages. I have used our normal stamp for other vaccinations but the OV stamp for rabies. That is not acceptable now! Parasite pages just state Veterinarian so this suggests that the OV stamp was the correct one for the other vaccinations as well as rabies.

The sign of a bad certificate is one that requires pages of explanatory notes. The old passport was a classic example and the new one not much better. I suspect most of us here could have designed passports that were more straight forward to use.

Need to get a new stamp made as mine does not have our phone number on it!

You were never supposed to stamp the normal vaccination pages with your OV stamp.

Yes, but now you're not supposed to use it in the rabies vaccination section either.
