:-) Oh dear! No, they don't. It depends on the county you're in, either you have to apply for the privilege and pay a small fee or you are given the privilege automatically and for free. It can be taken away of course if you don't fill them in properly. You'll have to try very hard for that though me thinks.

At least in Germany they won't make you pay a few hundred pounds to train or retrain to fill in passports, and then retrain every 5 years for the privilege as well... Will they?

This issue has been discussed to great lengths in Germany. We already have the new passports in stock, I've even ordered a stamp to fill in my details which fits perfectly on the page. We have been told the companies selling the passports will also sell additional lamination (they already do), but we could also use any see through lamination as long as it destroys the passport if someone tries to remove it. We also have to keep the passport numbers and where they went archived and have to put this into an internet based database. The funniest bit will be the moment when the owner has to sign the passport as it's often not the real owner who brings the pet to us. They will be very happy when they have to come back in person and sign the passport before we can actually give it to them. I'm actually over the moon with the whole thing as I also had to bin a lot of old passports, not only bin them but also rip them first to make them unusable. Oh joy.

It now says to use the sticker from the vaccination bottle - before you used to have to hand write in the details.

Thanks for that Stephen, it could be that I received it but binned it. I shall look forward to either receiving my batch of some angry clients. Its difficult enough explaining the passport to some of the Eastern Europeans as it is, if I've got to tell them why they can't have one they will be even more confused!

Re: New Pet Passport Regulations Effective from 29^th December 2014

The new regulations surrounding the Pet Travel Scheme come into effect on 29^th December 2014.

Any current stocks of passports that you hold, will remain valid for issue until 28^th December 2014. Any of these passports issued to pets will remain valid for the life of the animal or until they are required to be replaced and veterinarians can continue to make further entries in them.

In the next few weeks we will be sending the new model passports to all practices that have used passports in the past 12 months. The new passports should only be issued from 29^th December 2014 onwards. The new model passports must not be issued before this date.

Please ensure that any stocks of the old model passport remaining after the 28^th December are rendered unusable, before secure disposal by yourselves.

In the new passport OVs must enter their name, address, telephone number and signature when certifying rabies vaccination in section V. They can add their SP number but using the SP stamp in this section should be avoided. This also applies to section X, if applicable. The SP stamp must be used in section IV (issuing vet) and in section VI (the serology section) if applicable.

There is a new minimum age for rabies vaccination to be given, of 12 weeks. The data sheet for the vaccine should also be checked for the minimum age of use. Any vaccines which indicate 3 months cannot be given until the animal is 3 calendar months old.

The new passport has additional security features - please see the ET139http://ahvla.defra.gov.uk/External_OV_Instructions/Export_Instructions/Certification_Procedures/PETS.htm .

There are sufficient lamination sheets included in the passport for the section III identification page and all the rabies vaccination detail fields (vaccination and batch number). There are 3 lamination sheets in the passport. The first, which is adjacent to page 6, is a full page sheet and if carefully peeled and separated from the backing will cover all of page 6. The second and 3^rd sheets are “kiss-cut” and individual sections can be removed and placed over the rabies vaccination sticker for each entry. If stickers are used elsewhere in the passport, the OV should also laminate these. The practice will need to supply additional lamination.

Once you have used your first batch, further batches of passports should be ordered in the usual way by completing a control sheet for your batch and emailing this along with your request & practice details for a new batch to petpassportscarlisle@apha.gsi.gov.uk

So as I know nothing about this, a couple of questions: if we issue old style passports after 31st December are they invalid and if so how do they differ from the old ones?

I got a pack of 5 new pet passports last week.

Likewise, have barely glanced at them...but in the last 5 days issued 4 of the old style ones, as i mentioned the impending change and lack of new passports to people who mentioned travel plans.

You probably had an email from the APHA (the name of the week!) in the last couple of days with Briefing Note 1114 attached. Check your spam folder as it looks like all the 'invoices' that appear in my inbox each day!

But not all clients want to remain local for 21 days to pick up a delayed passport.

As far as I know the 28th of December has always followed the 27th so a simple look at a calendar should have given someone a hint when practices need supplies!

At least some seem to have been produced but the changes in legislation were decided upon some time back.

Blame the cuts?

To be fair we can issue an old one until the end of the week. After that there is a 3 week wait, so long as we have them by mid January everything should be OK.

We don't have any new ones yet. I believe we are all in the same boat as an email went round the V4P group recently and no-one seems to have any.
