Maybe animal welfare has deteriorated since you lived there.

Well there are plenty of donkeys in E Africa - but used more for domestic work - carrying fireword etc - and I'm pretty sure that they have a much better life than those poor wretched creatures used commercially in the stone quarries.

It always strikes me as somewhat ironic that the main welfare issues for donkeys in the UK relates to obesity (from lack of work) - possibly rather a reflection of the state of the human species across the globe.

Re: Heartbreaking photo on this week's VR

Seeing the poor wee girl carrying water on the next page is at least equally upsetting.

Re: Heartbreaking photo on this week's VR

Sorry, there's been similar on TV....

Re: Heartbreaking photo on this week's VR

This wasn't an advert - it was a photo of poor overloaded donkeys in the article, "Improving animal health for poverty alleviation and sustainable livelihoods." Terribly, terribly upsetting.

[/quote]

The irony of that advert is that the donkey may, and almost certainly was, just massively dehydrated, as there is often no water available for the animal from first light to dusk although the charity has all the bells and whistles at their lavish clinics....

[I saw the lame one too]

Charities often look to the image rather than the essentials.
