He's got his wires crossed I think. AFAIR the research indicated the improvement came from increased efficiency of the mitochondria so it is at a cellular level rather than getting the oxygen there in the first place with increased HCT. Its not going to turn a donkey into a race horse but it showed an improvement of several seconds over a short time trial which is enough to win or not.

Could be why people who eat a diet high in foods rich in flavenoids (read antioxidants) such as red fruits and green veg are healthier or maybe they just lead a generally healthier lifestyle full stop!

Now whether it is worth putting it in dog food and promoting as an antidote to urban life is another matter.

Re: Royal Canin 'Urban life'
Agreed. I'm glad others agree with my thoughts on this! It just disturbs me when a generally well thought of brand releases a product like this. I think it probably does their company more harm than good in trying to promote such far fetched ideas! I think it undermines and de-values their other products that do actually have some worth, ie some of the prescription diets, making owners much more sceptical.

Re: Royal Canin 'Urban life'

"28 out of 40 women said their skin looked younger"

Advertising claptrap. I am not impressed with the idea of breed specific or even many of the age claims. Dogs come in an almost infinite number of shapes and sizes, living vastly different lifestyles.

It seems to me that the pet food industry is going down the same path as the cosmetics industry - selling heavily advertised and vastly over-priced rubbish, based on pseudo-science, to a highly gullible public who appear to have more money than common sense.

Anti-oxidants (whatever they are) seem to be the new cure-all for everything from cancer to 'urban stress'.
