I'd hazard a guess that she was named after where she was conceived - at the office Xmas party by any chance ? In the photo-copying cupboard ?

(A fashion started by the Beckham's with their son Brooklyn, when they disclosed the reason for choosing that name).

I used to hate being called Tony. Since moving up to Lancashire, I've come to accept 'Anthony' is a bit of a mouthful and now will introduce myself as Tony in certain situations.

Apparently (or at least according to QI) 'Veruca' is quite a popular girl's name in the USA now, after 'Veruca Salt' of the R. Dahl book - the yanks seemingly don't use the term verruca for the rather unsavoury medical condition that we do.

(And I believe there are a few 'Emma Roydes' out there).

I'm another one who doesn't like being called 'Robert.' Only my mother and my now deceased grandparents are/were allowed this privilege albeit with grudging acceptance. Even my Dad knows to call me Rob now!

Kids names are a tough one, as we've recently discovered having just welcomed our first-born into the family. Only when you trawled through the baby name books do you realise how many people you actually don't like!

[/quote]I was referred to as the 'weedy one' by one farmer until I performed some feats of athleticism/strength that belied by beanpole stature then they called me the 'wiry one'. I think that was a compliment!

I got referred to as 'that nice young vet' yesterday. Made my day....and it was nothing to do with being called 'nice'.

A farmer at my first job rang up to get "that vet" to come and have another look at a sick cow.

Lol... I know the feeling... I hate being called Gill! My PE teacher at school always did, and I always resented it. When I bumped into her in a supermarket 20 years later.....she rembered me....and still called me Gill!

My husband is called Neil and he always gets called Nick. Embarassingly my Dad was one of those for a while as my previous boyfriend was called Nick, but several others who did not know my ex have called him Nick too.

I hate being called Cath. A while ago we had a work experience student who decided to call me Cath, when she said it the second time I turned around and said "my name is Catherine!" and stormed off, which is not like me at all.

My approach now is to just say, 'lets cut to the chase, what are you trying to sell me'?

I am frequently called Nigel when people can't remember my name, it's always the same mistake regardless of who it is. Bizarre!!

PS I also hate the 'How are you' opening gambit. What makes me laugh is it you start saying, 'Well I'm having a really bad day..... 9 times out of 10 they aren't interested!!

Another Bob who hates Robert - only my ancient mother uses it.

One of my absolute pet hates is people quite unknown to me (usually pension salesmen) who make unsolicited 'phone calls and say cheerily 'Hello Robert, and how are you today?'.....Grrrr.

I usually reply 'Oh hello mother, are you OK, your voice sounds a bit odd today', which does confuse them. Or alternatively, in a very sombre voice, 'I'm not well at all I'm afraid - I've just been diagnosed with terminal cancer and am only expected to live another couple of weeks'. Cue embarrassed silence at the other end....
