During the recorded conversation, Mr Smith talks about UKIP's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) group. He can be heard jokingly referring to it as BLT UKIP, and adds "what the old poofter groups call themselves".

He jokes about "shooting peasants" from the Essex town of Chigwell and supporting "a peasant's hunt through Chigwell village".

Too little and too late, but I'm still feeling more hopeful after George Osbourne's statement than at any time in the last 20 years!

At long last the politicians are grasping that tax-payers have had more than enough of being robbed, so if they want to save their careers next year, then they need to stop robbing us.

Next year will be the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta. Hopefully the politicians will remember that the original purpose of Parliament was to limit taxation.

[/quote]The average UKIP and Labour voter is a poorly educated, poorly paid, easily indoctrinated individual (the majority of the population!) who resents anyone who is better educated and/or they perceive as being better off than them, and mistakenly sees these parties as a way of improving their lot. A clever politician can easily manipulate them but whether these parties lean to the right or left is lost on them and irrelevant. Stigen's description of the political scene in Norway illustrates this nicely.

For sure there are some intelligent, idealistic people who will vote for Labour (even I did back in my rebellious youth) but it beggars belief that anyone with a brain would vote for UKIP.

Britain does not collapse. It sighs, grumbles and complains but really does not want anything big to change! It muddles through, which strangely seems to be the right thing to do compared to the Eurozone.

I honestly don`t think it matters what you vote. The system is the problem.You cannot hope to change the system within the confines of that very system. Rusell Brand is a funny and crazy guy , but also very intelligent, and entirely right in his youtube/BBC rants. Politicians want votes...because then they can aquire power. So they will claim that everything that the current policial rulers are doing is wrong,and that they have all the solutions.
We have one of these parties in Norway. They are to the right, but not nearly at the same level as UKIP or "Britain first" - which is really just pure radical racism disguised as politics - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britain_First

People voted for this party, but they never had any power. They kept gaining votes because they focused their politics on silly things that occupy the average voter more than big issues. They promised lower taxes on alcohol,smokes,road,cars and consumer articles. They promised cheaper everything, less immigrants, more use of the massive oil funds etc. After all these years they are finally in power. The party leader is finance minister...and surprise surprise - she is`nt really fulfilling any of the promises...and she really just made tax cuts for the richest people, and everything more expensive for the poorer people. Nobody is voting for this party anymore...but now it*`s too late,their already in power for many years to come.

The political system is`nt working. Just look at USA. they`re a complete oligarchy where the politicians are nothing more than puppets for big banks, big pharma, big oil, big chemical companies and other evils. A collapse is coming, but a transition would be better.

I think we are all screwed. UKIP will wreck any chance of a sensible government after the next election, and if we leave the EU as seems likely i personally think we will be worse off.

UKIP are in the enviable position of being able to change tack whenever it suits them. One day Europeans will be made to go home, the next they are welcome to stay.

NHS is safe one day and needs to be changed to an insurance model the next.

They can please all of the people, all of the time until they have a degree of power. At that stage they have to make up their minds.

I do think they will do well at the next election and will disappear without a trace once it is realised how shallow they are. It may be fun to have a pop at those in government but anything but fun having to govern. A government has to make serious choices, UKIP does not!

At the risk of pointing out the bloomin' obvious, my point is that they are a chaotic party, made up of various eccentric individuals who have united under their single agenda which is to get out of the EU.

Other than that they have no real policies and anyone who thinks they can go to them looking for views on animal rights, women's issues, equality legislation or even finance and taxation policy is in for a disappointment. The case I mentioned simply highlighted their inability to function as a credible political party. These animal rights abuses didn't happen over-night, so either they are incapable of properly vetting their candidates or they don't care about animal rights.

The SNP will get a drubbing in the Westminster elections; people like me vote SNP tactically to keep Labour out, now that its gone to their heads I'll vote tactically for the Unionist candidate most likely to win the seat; personally I'd rather like a UKIP government.

No! There is an indication that Alex Salmond is going to run for parliament at Westminster. That said I have just looked for links and been unable to find any! Based on something I heard on Radio 4 a few nights ago.

It is Scottish MP's in London that could potentially hold the balance of power. MSP's can stay north of the border!

All parties have their bad apples, and the only quarrel I have with that sentence is it's far far too leniant. Personally, I'd like cruelty to animals to be a mandatory capital offence, but on the other hand, UKIP policy is to have live export banned. This will greatly improve animal welfare in the peri-slaughter period. No other party has made this promise.

A farmer who was set to stand as a UKIP candidate in Cornwall has been jailed for four months for animal cruelty.

David Evans, from Week St Mary, near Bude, was also banned from keeping sheep and ordered to pay costs of £714.

At Bodmin Magistrates' Court, he admitted six charges of causing suffering and improperly storing carcasses.

Animal welfare officers described conditions at Evans' 40-acre holding as the worst they had seen.
