Well if you're wanting mountain biking, going to Suffolk won't be much help, it's pretty flat! I grew up in Thetford Forest (though parts of it are in Norfolk, don't forget your vaccinations!) and there are some good trails round there. The High Lodge centre near Santon Downham do have marked trails with old marl pits for descent/ascent fun.

However, the Forestry Commission can charge extortionate amounts to park there, so park up a little further down the road, near 2 Mile Bottom, and you can join the trails from there. I've left my car for hours in the laybys there and it has been safe.
