Our cards do Na/K/Cl/ionised Ca/HCT/Hb/glucose/creatinine/lactate and blood gases (although need an arterial sample for this). Used to have an istat machine but find this is better.

Re: Electrolyte analyser
Our machine sits almost redundant because of the really short dates on the cartridges. It is a brilliant machine but this problem makes it more useful for those with a larger throughput!
We are a small practice too. What has helped is getting Idexx to make us a custom profile that compliments (but doesn't duplicate) the Chem 8 cartridge. Everything that we do biochem/haematology goes through the I-stat with the balance going to the lab. That was the only way we could justify its use (it does cost the client a little more, but the speedy results make up for that - IMO).

Re: Electrolyte analyser

Our machine sits almost redundant because of the really short dates on the cartridges. The cartridges can have a short date, so we email to see before deciding how many to order. Had a few filling errors to start with but that was operator error rather than the machine.

Also does coags, basic biochem etc. A really useful thing for a sick animal. Also can measure ionised calcium, which (rather ironically) Idexx can't! That makes me smile internally. I take it out to cows and horses too.
