Not being green fingered I've only just got around to finding out what it is... Arum Italicum (chunky green stalk thing with green berries that turn red). Anyone know whether this is toxic to dogs

Re: Is this plant poisonous?!

http://www.nps.gov/cue/epmt/products/Arum%20italicum%202012%20NCREPMT.pdf

Re: Is this plant poisonous?!

Oh no, I've already got bindweed ++++.

Berries are poisonous but very bitter so ingestion less likely BUT.... very irritant to skin and mouth so local reactions common in people and animals that come into contact. May cause mouth / throat swelling if eating is attempted.

Re: Is this plant poisonous?!

Arum suggests lily family, so I'd assume yes.

Don't think it will be dangerously poisonous as dogs are unlikely to each much of it, but they will get skin/mouth irritation and vomitting/diarrhoe if they try it. Might be worth getting rid off it if you have a dog that likes to chew plants.
