Common sense would suggest any medication with a history of abuse should be stored safely. Our safe is getting pretty full!

Could cause issues with pro racing cyclists who, now desperate for something that is not banned post Armstrong fallout, use if to dull pain and thus increase performance. It has however been blamed on an increase in the number of crashes in the peloton recently!

From the VMD website:

'Tramadol

The government has considered the concerns raised in the consultation and has decided to place tramadol in Schedule 3 to the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001 when it is controlled later this year, but with exemption from the safe custody requirements'

There is no requirement to record Sch 3 CDs in your Register.

General advice is that it is good practice to keep all Sch 3's in a locked cupboard.

Interesting to see that it isn't just veterinary surgeons who fall over themselves to over comply with legislation of dubious benefit that should have lobbied to death long ago....

Having googled I see that the exemption from safe custody is there, so maybe the hospital just feels all schedule 3 drugs should be locked away. We keep a very close record of all our controlled drugs as it means we are always going to be aware of any being missing. Certainly handy after a recent burglary as all of it could be accounted for.

Yes we do. And the pharmacist said that they will be having to store theirs in the safe, which is a major problem for them as they carry so much stock.

Tramadol is exempt from safe custody requirements despite becoming a Sch 3 drug, and there's no legal requirement to record translations in a CD register for Sch 3 drugs. Do you record your vetergesic use??!
