Also had a few (mainly old ladies!) give me a couple of pounds for "cakes with your tea!", and one of my clients keeps handing in DVD copies (legal, of course, ahem..!) for my children. He also bought us a lottery ticket one week, but unfortunately we didn't win.

Re: Does anyone else have a client who insists on paying more.

We did have one who always paid us £20 extra, every visit (plus a tube of luxury hand cream, once), because she thought we were so wonderful.
Actually I did have a restaurateur client who paid an outstanding bill when he went bust with a case of Chateau La Tour. Very nice too. I expect I declared that as payment in kind as I'm so honest.

One dog was on longterm nsaids and the donation he gave for each prescription was usually more than he would have paid for the tablets - and even when we pointed that out he still insisted on paying the same. He often drops in just for a chat - and to put more money in the PDSA box He really brightens up the day - and his dog loves visiting (runs into the consult room and jumps onto the table!) which is worth more than any advertising.
