I am a post graduate student at Harper Adams University and I am currently undertaking some research for my thesis which is looking at innovation in the UK veterinary sector with a focus on veterinary physiotherapy.

Physios should be members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists, and for animal physios hopefully a member of ACPAT (link below). This would mean they have a human physio qualification and then have done further study to undertake animal physiotherapy too. There may also now be a primary degree in animal physiotherapy I think. The term physiotherapist is reasonably protected to qualified individuals, although there are lots of "massage therapists" and the like out there too.
Disclaimer - I have a vested interest with a daughter about to graduate in (human) physio.

We have a local physio. Who are they regulated by? Does this regulation extend to their treatment of animals? How can I check their qualifications are genuine? Can any physio 'treat' animals.

The person local to us keeps sending paperwork through requesting history on our patients (mainly equine). We have not referred anything to them specifically. I assume these requests come via the owners as they tend to cluster around certain yards. Until they start acting more professionally (and on veterinary referral) I will continue to ignore their existence.

I had problems with my knee as a teenager. The physio made it worse. I did all the silly exercises. I gave up after about six months and it got better with time.
