Be sure to read till the end. I've never heard it explained better. Perhaps the U.S. should pull out of Chicago?

PART 2- Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA - may soon have plenty of new residents!

THIS IS REALLY INTERESTING, AND TRUE ... PLEASE READ IT!

Oklahoma is the only state that Obama did not win even one county in the last election.... While everyone is focusing on Arizona 's new law, look what Oklahoma has been doing!!!

An update from Oklahoma :

Oklahoma law passed, 37 to 9 an amendment to place the Ten Commandments on the front entrance to the state capitol. The feds in D.C., along with the ACLU,said it would be a mistake. Hey this is a conservative state, based on Christian values... HB 1330

Oklahoma recently passed a law in the state to incarcerate all illegal immigrants, and ship them back to where they came from unless they want to get a green card and become an American citizen. They all scattered. HB 1804. This was against the advice of the Federal Government, and the ACLU, They said it would be a mistake.

The federal Government has made bold steps to take away our guns. Oklahoma, a week ago, passed a law confirming people in this state have the right to bear arms and transport them in their vehicles. I'm sure that was a setback for criminals. The Liberals didn't like it -- But....

Just this month, the state has voted and passed a law that ALL drivers' license exams will be printed in English, and only English, and no other language. They have been called racist for doing this, but the fact is that ALL of the road signs are in English only. If you want to drive in Oklahoma , you must read and write English. Really simple.

By the way, the Liberals don't like any of this either

The Green Party want a referendum and are very critical of the EU ( just sayin') And I am glad the frothing at the mouth posting over abortion/ 'baby murdering' and forced sterilisation has stopped- it really wasn't very pleasant.

Well, perhaps we can now abandon the several irrelevant, wandering, ultimately dead-ended deviations from the thread, which was supposed to be about the "EU" elections (not a particularly veterinary subject, but interesting to discuss none the less). I do apologise, I have a feeling that I was unintentionally responsible for one of those side-tracks.

It's fairly obvious to me that the big UKIP vote (and we didn't vote for members, we voted for parties, which seems a bit of a perversion, but no matter) was the electorate's way of protesting against UK membership of the EU. UKIP is the only credible party that campaigns for the UK to leave the EU. It doesn't mean that UKIP will do well in a General Election.

Unfortunately it also means that the cause of extricating the UK from the EU has begun to look like the exclusive preserve of UKIP, which it is not.

Meanwhile, a combination of deliberate smear tactics and initially rational discussions (such as this very thread) brings about an association between the cause of UK independence and the hang'em, flog 'em, spay 'em and send 'em down the mines community. This is quite unfair (but since when were politics ever fair?) and misleading.

Believe it or not, moderate, middle-road (JGW the Buddhism expert should understand that), intelligent, sensible, kindly people want to get the UK out of the EU.

I agree with Jo, don't give up on it, treat it like a Freeview box and tune out the posts that really annoy. I just laugh at the 'mad' ones now and occasionally politely (I hope) poke the authors with a pointed stick, but the vast majority (bar one) take it in good grace.

I find it a really good resource to pick up a minutes CPD and find that it does keep me up to date with what's going on.

I've only been really annoyed twice in 4 years (One red star and a personal message that had a hidden agenda and was a complete (wrong) shot in the dark.

Yes it's cringeworthy sometimes and this thread is a good example and it amazes me how open some are on a public forum, but it saves me buying the Daily Mail for a sneaky peek

Don't give up on the forum, Ruth. When I first joined I ended up shell-shocked for the first week or two! There is a supportive community here although it can sometimes seem to be drowned out by the loud and intimidating few. 'By their comments shall ye know them' (a misquote of the bible from an atheist!) You will get to know whose posts you trust and are aligned with your values, and which to ignore, and actually I do think that is better than censorship once you get used to it.

Vets need some support from somewhere, none of our 'representative' bodies seems to do so, and there is a lot of support for all viewpoints here - even if only in the form of 5 stars/red stars.

One of my objections was the enforced sterilisation of people who have transgressed. As I said, I'm adopted and I find it rather upsetting that it is suggested that forced sterilisation might be the sequel to having a bastard child. Anyway, I'm in grave danger of getting Frustrated by 'somebody on the Internet is worng' syndrome.-)) I have made my point and shall take a break. I'm not a big poster on here- I keep coming back to see if it works for me. Id love to be part of a supportive community of vets- but each time I come bsck I'm disappointed by the grumpiness here and the force with which people want to make their opinions. It's a shame, I'm sure there is real good here, but it does feel quite adversarial at times and it's not in my nature to need to be involved in more grief -))

Yes, I think my last post was a bit clunky.. And I agree that there's a thin end of the wedge re what people can and can't think/say. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that we should value our free speech and not use it to propagate hatred. I see fora like this as a bunch of people sitting in a pub chatting. If people start coming out with the sort of stuff that's been said on here, then I would have expected people to ask them to stop being so unpleasant. I agree there should be no censorship. I don't agree that this means people are allowed to spread hatred without being called out on it. This is a private forum - well as much as anything is on the Internet, and I think it's ok to say to somebody - 'oi hang on you are being offensive, please can you take it elsewhere' without it becoming a cause for amnesty international -))

Censorship is bad: there can be no "but".

As soon as you qualify the statement, you set out on the path that leads to majority views being "good" and minority views being "bad". Along that path comes pressure to exclude the minority views (all of them) because they are minority views and that comes to mean the same as "bad". It is a nasty slippery slope. Far better to let the nutters rant on. We will all have our own view on who the nutters actually are and which of their views are the appalling disgusting ones. Many, many people will think the stuff written above (the stuff that comes close to eugenics) is nothing less than the kind of sound, straight thinking that the politically-correct are just too scared to say and likewise, the apparently moderate views in support of easy-access abortion will be viewed by many, many people as disrespectful, hateful and offensive.

I also think censorship is a bad thing but when you live in a society that has no real censorship I also believe that there should be a fundamental respect for humanity. The two should go hand in hand but the posts here are disrespectful and hateful. I think it's fine to point that out and ask somebody to desist. The Ts and Cs of the site ask people not to post hateful things, Arlo has Just asked for this to be respected. When there is no state censorship, I think this means we need to be very careful with our words, just because we are allowed to say them- it doesn't mean we HAVE to say them.

Where did you get that from? The UKIP website? That figure is about twice the total amount the UK has EVER paid into the EU, and 3.5 times the total annual budget of the EU. Very little compassion and an inability to put yourselves in other people's shoes.
