If a vet advertises as treating exotic animals [for example] it indicates to the pet owner that, at the least, they will get attention for their pet, rather than be told that "we don't treat snakes" but Mr. X does.

Unfortunately post-grad qualifications are not the only measure of competence and the two are sometimes totally unrelated; post-grad qualifications are the beginning but not necessarily the end.

It won't be as re accreditation is brought in. For my own part I see the future in Personal Standards, incentivised through a credible, recognised, audited career progression. But, that would mean understanding General Practice and weakening the Practice based approach and a lot of time money and energy has been invested in PSS. RCVS also know little of and take less interest in General Practice and how successful it is. So, just at the moment it's all too far off their radar and interest.

Vote Molyneux, she really, really wants to see gold, silver and bronze PSS practices.

Well, not by Belgravia House, that's for sure.
You don't HAVE to join. I have no issue with RCVS running the scheme. I have no issues with them awarding some practices higher accolades - clearly not every practice is equal.

I think looking at the practice website and marketing material should be part of the inspection and claims regarding 'specialisms' must be backed up by qualification, experience and CPD.

We don't want it graded or categorised or rated by anybody. As for judging, the general public will continue to do this as they always have.
Gold, silver, bronze is naff and degrading IMHO and bears no relationship to the care or quality of the veterinary attention received.

If it's the public it will be false or just wrong; if it's on "facilities" we get back to the trouser press and dusty monitors in cupboards, if it's on care who's to judge?

It may come down to 24 hour attention, like A&E, with a hospital attached as it is in humans. The vet. specialists can't expect to dump their night work onto the OOH centres and it seems obvious that if they are going to care for their in patients they might as well be available for OOH calls, for economics if nothing else.

Bear in mind some OOH work is the stuff the specialists specialise in anyway; GDV etc., for instance.

Re: Gold, Silver,Bronze RCVS' dog's breakfast
