I like to do these checks thoroughly, charge appropriately for time and potentially save seller and buyer a whole world of hassle.
The VDS are quite cautious of certification. Advising to ID chip the puppies and add

Re: Pre-sale Litter Checks - With certification

Before the bottom dropped out of the racing greyhound industry, I had a client that bred and sold (often overseas) some ludicrously expensive puppies. I was asked on several occasions to examine these pups on behalf of the purchaser - the obvious conflict of interest was written into the report, the purchasers preferred to have someone with perceived experience of racing greyhounds. I was careful about identification and in addition to the racing industry paperwork, all the pups were chipped. I just examined the dogs carefully and recorded what I saw.

Definitely not something you can do in 5 minutes or charge peanuts for but I can't see any fundamental problems.

Re: Pre-sale Litter Checks - With certification

Not something I'd touch with a barge-pole.
Trouble is, I don't think the buyers really appreciate to what extent this is true and view it as a proper PPE. I see why "vet checked" on the ad is a desirable thing - at least you can rule out the massively ectoparasite laden, hernia'd skinny little disasters but.... well, .you wouldn't do a proper PPE on an 8 week old foal!

I think it just sets the new owner up for disappointment when their little darling turns out to have luxating patellas, a mouthful of retained deciduous teeth and the beginnings of atopy at <12mo.

Re: Pre-sale Litter Checks - With certification

[quote user="Michael Woodhouse"]Sounds like a way to get stung.

He is 100% right , we had a pikey breeder of jackshits or whatever ask an assistant for a group letter , pre sale ,that same letter was then photocopied tippex-ed , re-dated , and used on numerous other litters , that ended up 100+ miles away ,with dodgy Irish vaccine stickers attached that we were also supposed to have given them . Do not trust any of them with anything other than individual vaccine cards ,preferably chipped at the same time , even then avoid ticking the health check box .

Re: Pre-sale Litter Checks - With certification

Sounds like a way to get stung.
The only way I would produce such a certificate would be with explicit limitations and individual microchips.

Explain if you check eyes with a scope, listen to heart, look down ears. Checked jaw alignment, testicles descended, signs of umbilical or inguinal hernia etc.State the puppy was as described on the schedule at the time of examination and that no future can be foreseen or predicted.
