This one had been bought for £700 by an ex. police officer - it would have been nice to think they were up to speed with the regulations wouldn't it but

Re: Illegal puppy imports
Either the ferry companies (and other carriers) get their act together and 'police' this properly or they have to pay for government to do the job!
Indeed, but Eurotunnel has (IMHO) positioned their charges for travelling with a dog so low (to attract business) that they cannot afford to do thorough checks. Defra need to be made aware of the laxity of checks; the BVA have contact details at http://www.bva.co.uk/activity_and_advice/3524.aspx

Re: Illegal puppy imports

Total agreement with Bob - but it's not just puppies put at risk by lax enforcement of regulations. Just think of the number of poor animals exported for slaughter from this country. I'm positive that if the law was enforced rigidly, i.e. every animal unloaded, and given a full clinical examination, then this vile trade could br totally stopped.

This is clearly a commercial import and cannot use the scheme legally in the first place.

Either the ferry companies (and other carriers) get their act together and 'police' this properly or they have to pay for government to do the job! A few prosecutions of these companies would concentrate the mind IMO.

For every puppy that gets picked up how many get through?

The rabies situation is improving in Lithuania but it is still there! Why on earth are we putting ourselves at risk and why are 8 weeks old puppies being allowed to travel 1000 miles over multiple borders?
