The election campaign if getting full of questions to make our minds. I have to admit, these candidates have answered (in many cases successfully) very tricky questions. Well done for them.

I made my mind.

I'm voting for David Bartram, David Leicester and Mandisa
Greene. Jonathon and David Mills hadn't put themselves forward so I can't vote
for them ;-)

***********

David Bartram had studied the most important and concerning part of
the profession that I can only compare with animal welfare: vet welfare. I'm
not sure how and if this would be of any benefit once he get elected but like
Joanna said once:
If we don't look after the vets, they can't look after the patients....
... and he's got a Giant bike, just like mine...

***

I'm voting for David Leicester because I know firsthand that
he's been there. He's done OOH work at all levels and had dealt successfully with very sticky situations. I'm not sure if I would
agree with him on his views on one single mistake being enough to being struck off,
but I can think that he's someone that can be trusted. Organised very good CPD too!

... and I'm finding out now that he's also a good politician
(not sure if that is a 'good' thing or not). Look at this answer when JHL said 'you
lost me at compulsory PSS'. http://www.vetsurgeon.org/forums/p/18403/111875.aspx#111875
 It's a fantastic one.

***

And I'm voting for Mandisa because she wants to change the world.
I think (personally) that she might find a lot of closed doors if she gets
elected but she sounds as if she is determined to fight for what she thinks is
right. That's the kind of spirit that we all need.

*******

Maybe, some of my votes are towards candidates with ideas
that are opposed to each other, I don't know. But that is what I will do.

It would help if voters know the graduation date and veterinary field of each candidate ie 1961, large then small animal some equine, practice owner 8 vets, retired.

Sometimes these parameters could be significant

Re: Who are you voting for and why?
Base your vote on the candidate's opinions, not their gender or age!
Yes, of course that comes into it. But the only electoral guidance given by RCVS says 'it is vital that those who sit on the Council are representative of the profession'. As far as I can tell, of the 23 elected council members presently in office, only 3 graduated after 1990, and of those 2 are small animal practitioners, albeit both in ECC.

I don't know any details but I suspect that the percentage of small animal practitioners graduating after 1990 who are out there in practice would be greater than the 9% present on the Council, but I stand to be corrected if anyone has any evidence to the contrary.

Sigh. I knew I would get grief for that but yes, I would and I do. I haven't got time to do an in-depth analysis on the candidates and I tend to think if they are standing, they probably are good people with good intentions. (Mr Lonsdale excepted!) What I do think is important is at least having some first opinion practitioners and women kicking about in the RCVS to represent the normal, working vet.

No! No! No! You don't have to vote for six. Only vote for those you really really want.
My prediction is that the protest/weneedmoreyoungpeople vote will be split amongst the numerous candidates and all the old familiar persons will get back in.

I don't think this thread should have been started until the poll had closed. However, since you've got me going: I find it easier to decide who not to vote for, as every year. However, I have to vote for at least one, or I'm counted as an apathetic non-voter. It's not bad this year, i've got two definites and one maybe.

I went through very similar hassles with small children, but now can add many years of small animal experience and mentoring of new graduates and training of nurses to the mix. Also I do have a daughter who graduated six years ago, and I hear her views and those of her friends loud and clear.
