I had someone say that they didn't want to see a student when I called them in recently. I had barely opened my mouth at that point. I am 31 & 7 years qualified.

A good few years ago I went to blood sample some sheep and ended up looking at a horse (while your here kind of job). A couple of weeks later the client phoned up to ask some further questions but couldn't remember which vet they had seen so thought they'd describe me. "Scottish, older chap" she said. The receptionist thought she must mean the senior partner and suggested his name. "No" replied the client "I know him. This man would be 40 to 50". By this point the receptionist had looked at the records, seen it was me and was doing her best not to laugh. I was 27 at the time

I still get the "your too young to be a vet...its 7 years isnt it...did u start when u were 13..." I wish i was nearer 20 than 30!

When I first started I was described as 'the Giant Man, about 30'.

I was 25 at the time.

In my first year of practice in Taranaki [1962] a farmer rang up to "get the vet to have another look at the cow he saw yesterday"

Eileen, receptionist/radio operator asked "which vet, what was his name?"

Farmer replied "dunno his name, but he's the short, stumpy, balding one...."

Not even an "old" or a "nice"

Concentrate on the nice and hope that when the owner comes in he looks about 18.
