RCVS got it that wrong?

This weeks Vet Record seems to sum up the screw ups at the RCVS (my opinion of course).
Nick Stace has told the BVU that the RCVS are aware of the Chikosi disquiet and are currently responding to it.
Then to quote:

Does anyone know who the BVU is? I have never heard of them and now they are claiming a union of the veterinary profession and wishing to change our regulatory system?
BVU has always been remarkably quiet about exactly how many members they have. I think eventually someone will have to pony up membership and then get the figures that way.

From the Vets4BVU website:
About

“You’d have to have been hiding under a rock not to have noticed the debate … about a veterinary union…” said Nicky Paull, then President of BVA, in the August 2009 issue of Veterinary Practice.

The idea of a union for UK veterinary professionals was put forth in June 2008, which lead to an unprecedented debate in veterinary print and online media referred to in the above comment.

A campaign group under the name Vets4BVU was set up later in 2008 and held its first meeting in December at Birmingham with 20 vets participating. The Vets4BVU Steering Group was created to lead the work of the campaign group. At a subsequent meeting at St Helens a decision was made to incorporate veterinary nurses into the campaign.

Over the next three years, thousands of emails were exchanged between the members of the Steering Group and vets and nurses across the country. Scores of letters and articles were written in veterinary press, most of which are available under various sections in the visitors section of this website.

The campaign culminated in the launching of the British Veterinary Union under the auspices of Unite the Union in July 2011.

The BVU is now a growing organisation actively wroking to safegaurd the interests of the veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses as personnel and professionals and helping the allied staff working in the UK veterinary profession.

Some of the BVU’s general work is reflected in the responses submitted to various consultations conducted by the RCVS, available to view under the visitors section on this website.

The membership information is available through links on the home page.

We welcome all vets, nurses and allied staff working in the UK to to join the BVU.
So they must have at least 20, one hopes!

Hence the grouping together. It is like a chapter title reference rather than a page reference to the specific point.

I think the real question is:

Does anyone know who the BVU is? I have never heard of them and now they are claiming a union of the veterinary profession and wishing to change our regulatory system?

Re: Hells Bells.
Chikosi was about visits which happen day or night. It is visit policy, acceptability of delays and standards of DC decisions that has caused ructions.

I am concerned they are trying to dilute one issue by incorporating it in a wider issue. Linking Chikosi with 24/7 and deciding 24/7 emergency cover is the biggest area of concern is wrong. They are both extremely important issues and whilst there is overlap but they are not the same.

Re: Hells Bells.
Nor do I. I'm quite sure that they are all 100% awake about this. The million dollar question is what (if anything) will happen as a consequence.

Re: Hells Bells.
By saying that they are looking at cover expands the remit.

These press pronouncements will be thought about in respect to wording, and won't be off the cuff like a forum, so I think this is encouraging.
